Five vehicle crash in Ennis

TRAFFIC was blocked for a period of time in the Market in Ennis this afternoon, after a crash which involved five vehicles. While an ambulance was present at the scene, a Garda spokesman said that there were no serious injuries. The incident occurred at around 3pm, when a Toyota Corolla came off the road and struck a Toyota Avensis, which was in a parking space right in front of Taylor’s pub. The Avensis then struck a vehicle in front of it, and the knock on effect resulted in another two vehicles being damaged. Both the Corolla and the Avensis were very badly damaged, but the impact on the other vehicles didn’t seem to be anywhere near as serious. Speaking to the Champion shortly after the incident, the owner of the Avensis said she hadn’t been in the vehicle when the crash happened. “I was above around the corner and we heard an unmerciful bang,” she commented. Gardai reiterate appeal for witnesses to accident

GARDAI in Killaloe are appealing for witnesses to a road traffic accident in which two drivers were injured, one seriously. The two-car crash occurred last Friday afternoon at 3pm at Two-Mile-Gate, on the Killaloe to Scariff road. Units of the fire brigade from Scariff and Killaloe attended the scene along with ambulances from Killaloe and Limerick City. The seriously injured female driver was stabilised at the scene before removed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. Gardai in Killaloe are continuing with their investigations into the accident and have appealed for witnesses to contact them on 061-620540.

Driver arrested after taking to the fields

A MAN who crashed his car while being pursued by gardai near Lissycasey was later arrested after taking to the fields. The incident happened near Lack on Thursday when gardai became suspicious of a vehicle traveling on the N68. When they proceeded after the car in an effort to stop it, the driver took off and turned down a country road towards Ballynacally. A short distance down the road, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed. He then abandoned the vehicle and tok to the fields leaving a pregnant female passenger behind in the car. However, the driver was arrested a short time later and taken to Ennis Garda Station for questioning. He was later charged and released on bail pending further investigation.

Fatal Crash in Sixmilebridge

A MAN in his twenties has died following a road traffic collision in Sixmilebridge in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Gardaí in Shannon are investigating the single vehicle crash, which occurred at approximately 4.30am on the Sixmilebridge Road to Shannon, and are appealing for witnesses. It is understood that the car collided with a wall and the man, who was the only occupant, died following injuries sustained in the crash. He has not yet been named and his body has been removed to the University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem will take place on this afternoon. Anyone with information is asked to contact Shannon Garda Station on 061-365900 or the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-111-666 or any garda station. Investigations are continuing.
