A 60-year-old West Clare man has appeared in court this week charged with dangerous driving causing the death of three-year-old Estlin Wall in Inagh earlier this year. Senan O’Flaherty, with an address at Lower Gowerhass, Cooraclare appeared before Ennis District Court on Wednesday. He is charged with dangerous driving causing the death of Estlin Wall at Ballyea South, Inagh on March 15, 2017. The substance of the charge alleges that the defendant drove in a manner, including speed, which, having regard to the circumstances of the case, was dangerous to the public thereby, causing the death of Estlin Wall. Garda Ruth O’Sullivan gave evidence of arresting Mr O’Flaherty at 9.45pm on Monday, September 30 at his address. She said he made no reply after caution in respect of the single charge of dangerous driving causing death. Solicitor Joe Chambers, representing the defendant in court, said he did not have an application for free legal aid. Inspector Tom Kennedy, prosecuting, outlined that the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed that the case proceed on indictment to the Circuit Criminal Court for trial. He said a Book of Evidence would be required in the matter and requested an adjournment to facilitate this. Judge Patrick Durcan, presiding, adjourned the case to December 13 next and granted an application to extend time to serve the Book of Evidence in the case. It is expected that the book will be served on the accused on that date Estlin Luna Wall was the daughter of Amy Dutil Wall and Vincent Wall from Ennistymon and was a sister to Mannix. She died just 11 days shy of her fourth birthday. Her dad, Vincent, is the brother of Steve and Joe Wall of the band The Stunning. He was also in the car on the day she was killed. The family, who run a framing business in Ennistymon, made the decision to donate Estlin’s organs before taking her off life support a number of days after the crash. Arising from the tragedy, Steve Wall set up an online fund to help the family and it received a significant amount of support, with more than €70,000 raised for the family. Donations above this were made to Temple Street Children’s Hospital. In memory of Estlin, her former créche, Inagh Ark Childcare, planted a pink cherry blossom tree. They said when they look at it, they will recall Estlin as “the most beautiful girl with curly fair hair”, “funny, witty, playful and loveable. She had a heart of gold and the most infectious smile”.

CRUSHEEN teenager Delia Keary has become the fourth Clare person to die as a result of road traffic accidents in recent days. The 18 year old had been a passenger in a car which collided with a truck at Wards Cross near Abbeyfeale on Friday evening. 19 year old Gary Kelly from Ennis died at the scene while Delia was taken to University Hospital, Limerick for treatment. However Gardai have confirmed that she passed away on Saturday night. Newcastle West Gardai are investigating the incident and they have appealed to witnesses to contact them on 069 20650, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station. Also the funeral takes place on Monday of Clare native Paul Hannon, who lost his life after he was involved in a collision with a car while cycling in Dublin on Friday morning. Three year old Estlin Wall, the daughter of Vincent Wall and Amy Dutil Wall, lost her fight for life this weekend following a car crash near Inagh on Wednesday morning last. Her father Vincent Wall from Ennistymon, who is the youngest brother of Steve Wall of The Walls and The Stunning, is still in a serious condition in a Dublin hospital having suffered brain injuries following the 9am crash. In the wake of the tragedy Steve Wall has issued an appeal for support on his Facebook page. “Last Wednesday morning my youngest brother Vincent and his almost four year old daughter Estlin were involved in a terrible car crash in County Clare. Vincent is in hospital in Dublin with massive brain injuries and still hasn’t opened his eyes. A 42 year-old pedestrian struck and seriously injured following a road traffic collision at Shiels roundabout in Ennis last Wednesday night has died from his injuries. The man has been named as Eugene McNamara from Ennis, a brother of Clare All-Ireland hurling medal winner, Stephen. He was actively involved with the Éire Óg GAA Club as a coach. The incident occurred just before 10pm near the roundabout when two cars collided with one going out of control and hitting Mr McNamara. He was rushed to University Hospital Limerick but passed away late last night. Two men in one of the cars, aged 25 and 19, fled the scene on foot after the collision. They were followed and apprehended by an off-duty garda. The men were treated for minor injuries and were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Ennis Garda Station. They were released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of …

A 42 year old pedestrian was left in a critical condition following a crash in Ennis last night (Wednesday). The crash happened around 10pm on the Gort Road, at the small roundabout which is close to the Midwestern Regional Hospital Ennis and McDonald’s. Gardaí say that a car approaching from the Gort side struck a car that was stopped on the roundabout. The first car then careered onwards, mounted the pavement and struck the pedestrian. The man was  taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick. His injuries are understood to be life threatening. The occupants of the second car, two females aged in their 60s, were also taken to University Hospital Limerick. Their injuries are no thought to be life threatening. The occupants in one of the cars, two males aged 25 and 19 years, fled the scene on foot. They were followed and apprehended by an off duty garda, before being arrested a short distance away. THIS Saturday is the 55th anniversary of the worst air crash in Shannon’s history and one family are travelling from Austria to commemorate the tragedy. Eighty-four people were killed when a President Airlines Douglas DC-6 crashed into the Estuary on September 10, 1961. Thirty-three-year-old Ferdinand Berger was one of those on board and his death left his wife and three children bereaved. This weekend, his two daughters, Eva and Christa, are visiting with their families. They have been in contact with Fr Tom Ryan over recent months and, speaking about their arrival, he said. “I was contacted during the summer by the Berger family, to help organise a memorial service this Saturday for their father, who died 55 years ago in this crash. “Their contact led me to do a bit of investigation into all that happened in that era in Shannon, which is fairly well documented. Two German tourists were removed to hospital following a two-vehicle collision in North Clare. The men had been travelling along a narrow country road at Toornahooan, a short distance from Doolin, when the accident occurred. Two units of the fire brigade from Ennistymon along with ambulances from Ennistymon and Ennis responded to the incident along with gardaí. Members of the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard were also requested to assist. The two male occupants of the rental car were injured in the collision while the driver of the second vehicle was unhurt. The injured were taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.

The man who died in a road crash in North Clare on Tuesday evening has been named as Grzegorz Frydrych. The 35-year-old from Poland, who was visiting the county on holiday, lost his life after the car he was travelling in collided with a motorcycle on the Coast road near Doolin. Gardaí have confirmed that his family have been notified and steps will now be taken to repatriate his body home. Three others were injured in the collision, the male driver and a female passenger in the car have since been released from hospital. However,  the motorcyclist, a man from the Doonbeg area, remains in a serious condition at University Hospital Limerick.
