A Clare based Parent Support Line providing support to parents and carers during Covid 19 will be launched today (Monday March 30) by Clarecare Family Support Services, with support from partner agencies. The helpline will be open from Monday to Friday from 10am-4pm on 065 6828178 or by email at parentingsupport@clarecare.ie According to Jacinta Swann, Manager of Clarecare Family Support Services: “Parenting can be a struggle at the best of times.  We understand that dealing with the impact of Covid 19 may be a stressful and difficult time for parents and children as they try to adapt to a new routine at home, social distancing and isolation and so we want to offer a valuable listening ear.” The Parent Support Line will be staffed by a professional and experienced family support team offering parents and carers a listening ear, parenting tips and guidance and signposting to other relevant services. The Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) has today been informed that 10 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 in Ireland have died, eight male and two female. This figures come as three new Covid-19 cases were confirmed in Clare. The total in this county now stands at 34. Nationally, six deaths are located in the east of the country, three in the northwest and one in the south.  The median age of today’s reported deaths is 77. There have now been 46 COVID-19 related deaths in Ireland. The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has been informed of 200 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland, as at 1pm today. There are now 2,615 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland. THE publication on Saturday evening of the list of essential service providers under the new public health guidelines is most welcome, according to Shannon Chamber CEO Helen Downes following a day of confusion amongst member companies as to how their operations would be classified. Having received a many phone calls from concerned chief executives following An Taoiseach’s announcement of new travel and work restrictions, as to whether they would need to start shutting down operations at short notice, Ms Downes has welcomed the fact that companies, on reading the detail, can now assess if their operations are classified as essential. While many Shannon companies have kept production operational to date, many were questioning overnight as to what steps they would need to take over the weekend to either shut down or maintain operations and advise staff accordingly. As of midnight on Saturday, Clare citizens have effectively been ordered to stay indoors except for a few clearly identified circumstances. The announcement was made during a televised address from Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar. All public and private gatherings outside of a single household are also prohibited in the most stringent attempt so far to deal with the Corona virus. People will be allowed to leave their homes to travel to essential work, to travel to medical appointments, to shop for food or medical necessities or for vital family reasons, for example providing care to a vulnerable person. Exercise can be taken outdoors but only singly and within 2km of your home. Non essential shops and services will close and all non-essential surgery will be postponed. A ban on visiting hospitals and other health facilities is in place except on compassionate grounds. THERE are currently less than five confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Clare. On Wednesday evening the Health Protection Surveillance Centre said that 74 new cases of COVID-19 had been confirmed in Ireland. The cases are made up of 29 females and 45 males: There have been two deaths associated with COVID-19 in Ireland. There are now 366 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country. The HSE is working rapidly to identify any contacts the patients may have had, to provide them with information and advice to prevent further spread. The National Public Health Emergency Team has made available an analysis of the 271 cases notified as at midnight on Monday, March 16. ·        Of the 271 cases notified 40% are male and 59% female, with 23 clusters. ·        To date 42% cases are travel related, 22% associated with community transmission, 17% are as a result of local transmission and 20% remain under investigation. · …

Following discussions today with the Licenced Vintners Association (LVA) and the Vintners Federation of Ireland (VFI), the Government is now calling on all public houses and bars (including hotel bars) to close from this until at least March 29. A total of 7,000 pubs, which employ 50,000 people, will close. The LVA and VFI outlined the real difficulty in implementing the published Guidelines on Social Distancing in a public house setting, as pubs are specifically designed to promote social interaction in a situation where alcohol reduces personal inhibitions. For the same reason, the Government is also calling on all members of the public not to organise or participate in any parties in private houses or other venues which would put other peoples’ health at risk. The Government, having consulted with the Chief Medical Officer, believes that this is an essential public health measure given the reports of reckless behaviour by some members of the public in certain pubs last night. …
