CLARE County Council has confirmed that the Ennis St Patrick’s Day parade has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Other Clare parades that have been confirmed as cancelled include Ennistymon, Fanore, Kilfenora and Kilkee. In relation to the Ennis parade, Clare County Council said that a risk assessment, based on Health Service Executive guidelines, was carried out which concluded that based on the demographic of those attending the parade, the close proximity of people attending the event and the duration of the event (among other considerations), Clare County Council is not in a position to provide the necessary assurances in relation to current HSE Guidelines.  

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has today been informed of a new confirmed case of COVID-19 in Ireland, a male, in the east of Ireland, associated with travel from northern Italy. There are now 19 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Ireland. The HSE is working rapidly to identify any contacts the patient may have had, to provide them with information and advice to prevent further spread. The National Public Health Emergency Team met today, to consider guidance from the Expert Advisory Group on managing healthcare workers who are close contacts of a confirmed case. This guidance was developed in light of the recent diagnosis of COVID-19 in a patient hospitalised in Cork University Hospital, which has led to a significant number of close contacts with healthcare workers. The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has this evening been informed of seven new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland. Two are associated with close contact with a confirmed case in North Clare. Four are travel related from Northern Italy, four males from the east country. One case of community transmission, a male from the south of the country, is associated with Cork University Hospital and a risk assessment is underway There are now 13 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Ireland.
