Drugs worth estimated €700k seized near Clare village

GARDAí have seized €700,000 of suspected heroin and arrested one man following a search operation in County Clare this Friday. As part of Operation Tara, planned searches led by the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit assisted by local Garda units, the Regional Dog Unit and members of the Defence Forces, were conducted on lands in the Ardnacrusha area. In the course of the searches suspected heroin with an estimated value of €700k (analysis pending) was recovered. A man in his 60s was arrested as part of the investigation and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drugs Trafficking) Act, 1996, at Henry Street Garda station. The man can be held for up to seven days. The drugs will be forwarded to FSI for analysis and investigations are ongoing.

Cannabis herb seized during raid in Clare county town

A GARDA operation in Ennis recently saw €6,000 of suspected drugs seized. On Monday, February 28 at 4pm, the Divisional Drugs Unit conducted a search under warrant at a house in Ennis. During the course of this search €6,000 worth of suspected Cannabis Herb was seized. A male in his late 20s was arrested at the scene and detained at Ennis Garda Station. The suspect has since been released from custody and a file is now being prepared for submission to the DPP. All the suspected controlled substances have been forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis. This seizure forms part of Operation Tara which is an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy. The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.

Clare gardai seize drugs in three separate operations

CLARE gardai mounted a number of operations in the past week seizing over €6,000 worth of illegal drugs. On Tuesday, February 22 at 8 pm detectives and uniformed gardaí from Ennistymon and Kilrush conducted a search under warrant at a house in the Lahinch area of the county. During the course of this search €4,600 worth of suspected Cannabis Herb was seized. A male in his late 20s was arrested at the scene and detained at Kilrush Garda Station. This man has since been released from custody and a file is now being prepared for submission to the DPP. The following evening at at 9pm, the Divisional Drugs Unit stopped a car in the Ennis town area and conducted a search of the vehicle. During the course of this search suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of €1,500 was seized. Clare man charged over seizure of cocaine

A MAN has appeared in court charged in connection with the seizure of suspected drugs in Doonbeg last weekend, writes Ronan Judge. David Rogers (33), with an address at Baltard, Doonbeg, appeared before Kilrush District Court on Tuesday, October 19, charged with two offences contrary to the misuse of drugs act. Detective Garda Paul Heaslip of the Clare garda division’s drugs unit gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution. Detective Heaslip told the court he arrested Rogers last Saturday at Baltard, Doonbeg, before conveying him to Kilrush Garda Station. The accused made no reply to either of the two charges after caution. Detective Heaslip confirmed to counsel for Rogers that he was happy for the accused to be remanded on bail. Sergeant Aiden Lonergan said the court would see from the charges that this is a very recent matter and directions as to how the case is to proceed are yet to be obtained from the director of public prosecutions …

Gardai seize over €50,000 of cannabis near Clare village

GARDAÍ have seized €52,000 worth of suspected Cannabis Herb following three searches near a county Clare village on Sunday. Shortly after 4pm on Sunday, Gardaí attached to Kilrush Garda Station and the Clare Divisional Drugs Unit conducted three separate searches under Operation Tara in the Kilmihil area. During the course of these searches a quantity of suspected cannabis herb estimated to be worth €52,000 (subject to analysis) was located and seized. A man in his late 20s was arrested and is currently detained at Kilrush Garda Station under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996. Gardai seize cannabis herb and plants in raid

GARDAÍ have seized almost €19,000 worth of suspected cannabis herb following the search of a house overnight. Gardaí attached to the Galway Divisional Drugs Unit carried out a search under warrant of a house in the Kiltartan area of Gort, shortly after 10.30pm on Monday May 17. During the course of the search, a quantity of suspected cannabis herb valued at approximately €16,500, and suspected cannabis plants valued at approximately €2,400 were discovered. These items were seized and are being sent for forensic analysis. No arrests have been made. An investigation is ongoing.

Two charged with possession of €50k of cannabis found in Clare

TWO men appeared in court this Monday, April 19, charged with possessing €50,000 worth of cannabis, found by gardai in a wooded area in County Clare last Friday, writes David Raleigh. Paul Collopy, (45), originally from Limerick, but with an address at Childers Road, Ennis, Co. Clare, and, Benedict Brady, (58), with an address at Tiermaclane, Ballyea, Ennis, Co. Clare, appeared before Limerick District Court. Both accused men are charged with possessing the drugs for sale or supply, as well as their own use, contrary to Section 15 and Section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. They are alleged to have had the drugs in their possession on April 16 last, at Carnelly House, Clarecastle, Co. Clare. Detective Garda Denis Stack, Ennis Garda Station, said he charged Mr Collopy with both offences, at Ennis Garda Station, at 5.08pm on April 18. In reply to both charges, Mr Collopy told the detective: “That’s a stitch up, 100% total stitch up.” …

Gardai make several seizures of drugs across county Clare

GARDAI in the Clare division have made several seizures of drugs across the county over the past week. As part of the ongoing operation targeting the sale or supply of controlled substances in the Clare Garda Division, gardaí carried out a number of searches under warrant in the county over the past week. The largest seizure was of suspected cocaine, with an estimated street value of €32,000, in Ennis on Friday, April 9 at 5.30 pm. Gardaí from the Clare Divisional Drugs Unit executed a search warrant at a house in the county town and seized the suspected drugs and arrested two males, both in their early 30s. The pair were arrested at the scene and brought to Ennis Garda Station where they were detained under the provisions of the Section 2 Drug Trafficking Act 1996.
