Man charged as gardai seize cannabis in north Clare raid

A MAN in his 40s was arrested after gardai raided a house in north Clare and seized almost €11,000 of suspected cannabis. On Wednesday, November 30 gardaí from Ennistymon and Kilrush Garda Stations carried out a search under warrant of a house in Lisdoonvarna. During the course of the search approximately €11,000 worth of suspected Cannabis Herb was located and seized. A male in his early 40s was arrested and detained at Kilrush Garda Station. He was charged with simple possession and possession for sale or supply and brought in custody before Ennis District Court on December 1, when he was released on his own bail to appear at a later date before the same court. The suspected controlled substances have been forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for examination.

Almost €1m of cannabis plants seized in south Galway

Over €950,000 of suspected cannabis plants have been seized and three persons arrested following the search of a premises conducted as part of Operation Tara in County Galway yesterday. The search of a premises was conducted by Gardaí attached to Galway Garda Station and the Galway Divisional Drugs Unit and occurred shortly after 3:30pm in Kilcolgan, County Galway. During the course of this search, Gardaí discovered a sophisticated growhouse operation within the premises and seized suspected cannabis plants worth approximately €950,000. Two men (both in their 40s) and one woman (aged in her 30s) were arrested at the scene. They are currently being detained at the North Western Regional HQ under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996. Gardai chief hails drugs seizure as blow to local gang

THERE has been a significant seizure of drugs that were for sale or supply in the Ennis area, according to a local Garda Chief. Superintendent John Galvin told members of a Joint Policing Committee meeting on Monday that a person has been arrested in relation to this haul, which is regarded as a major blow to the local drugs trade. The figures showed the seizure of drugs for sale or supply fell from 68 from January to October 2021 to 32 from January to October 2022, a drop of 53%. Detection of so-called simple possession fell from 143 to 110, which translated into a drop of 23%. Serious injury as a result of road accidents in the Clare Division fell 50% from 22 to 11, speeding offences dropped by 7% from 3,749 to 3,478. Revenue officials seize €80k worth of drugs at Shannon Airport

Revenue officials have seized 4kgs of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of €80,000, at Shannon Airport. The illegal drugs were concealed in a parcel that had originated from Italy and were destined for an address in Cork City. The seizure came about as a result of routine operations at the airport this Tuesday, September 6. Seperately, this Wednesday, as a result of routine profiling, Revenue officers at Rosslare Europort seized approximately 200,000 cigarettes with an estimated retail value of €150,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €118,000. The illegal cigarettes, branded ‘Dunhill’, were discovered with the assistance of Revenue’s mobile x-ray scanner when Revenue officers stopped and searched a Bulgarian registered truck and its accompanying trailer, that had disembarked a ferry from Dunkirk, France. Cocaine seized during garda raid in Ennis

A MAN in his 20s was arrested in Ennis last Saturday in connection with a seizure of suspected cocaine. On Saturday, July 23 at 10.30am, the Divisional Drugs Unit conducted a search under warrant at a house in Ennis. During the course of this search approximately €3,000 worth of suspected Cocaine was seized. A male in his mid-20s was arrested at the scene and detained at Ennis Garda Station. This male has since been released from custody and a file is now being prepared for submission to the DPP. The suspected controlled substances have been forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis. These seizures form part of Operation Tara which is an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy. The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.

Man in 50s charged over Clare/Limerick drugs seizures

Gardaí in Limerick have charged the man that was detained in relation to the searches under Operation Coronation, in conjunction with Operation Tara in Clare and Limerick on Friday, May 27. The man, aged in his 50s that was detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, in Henry Street Garda Station has been charged in relation to the seizure and is due to appear before Limerick District Court this Monday morning at 10.30a.m. The female, aged in her 30s that was detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, in Henry Street Garda Station has been released without charge and a file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
