ALL-WEATHER drone facilities are to be sought by the council in 2022 in a bid to boost the search and rescue capabilities of the Civil Defence, writes Fiona McGarry. The news was revealed following a call from Mayor of Clare, Councillor PJ Ryan, for enhanced drone equipment, with infrared and all-weather facilities. Ennis training centre for paramedic BSc would be mutually beneficial, says Crowe THE possibility of an Ennis-based training centre for University of Limerick’s course in paramedic studies has been floated. A government minister has proposed the University of Limerick and the Clare Civil Defence should enter negotiations on the proposed establishment of a training centre for paramedics. Deputy Cathal Crowe recently asked the Minister for Education and Skills, Simon Harris if he would support proposals to develop a training centre for students of the University of Limerick’s bachelor of science in paramedic studies course at the new Civil Defence building in Ennis. Minister Harris said the best way forward would be for the Civil Defence and the University and any other relevant stakeholders to speak directly to see if there are mutually agreeable proposals that can be advanced. THE professionalism and dedication to duty of Clare Civil Defence was highlighted this week at the opening of the group’s new headquarters. The new facility, at the Quin Road Campus in Ennis, was officially opened this Tuesday by Simon Coveney TD, Minister for Defence and Minister for Foreign Affairs. The headquarters is a state-of-the-art, purpose-designed building that will be utilised by more than 100 Civil Defence volunteers from around the county, and includes training facilities, office accommodation, a records management centre, storage and garage. Speaking at the official opening Minister Coveney said: “I am delighted to be here on this important occasion. Read More »Search resumes in Bunratty for missing man
Searches are to resume this morning for a man missing in the Bunratty area since Saturday. Gardaí have expressed concerned for the well being of the man in his late 50’s, originally from the Bunratty area but living in Sixmilebridge, who was last seen on Saturday. Volunteers from Bunratty Search and Rescue and locals mounted a search on Saturday evening and they were joined on Sunday morning by the Shannon based Irish Coast Guard helicopter. Volunteers walked the banks of the Ratty River as the operation focused on the river and surrounding waterways. The search also involved Gardaí, the Killaloe, Kilkee and Doolin units of the Irish Coast Guard, Clare Civil Defence and Kilrush RNLI. The Limerick Land Search Team have also been assisting in the search.
