Kilrush hotel gets revamp

Kilrush’s efforts to win the overall national Tidy Towns award in the coming years should be helped by the efforts of

The presence of several derelict buildings in Kilrush was highlighted at the June meeting of Kilrush Town Council, which was addressed by Kilrush Tidy Town’s secretary Des Jennings.
“As long as these derelict buildings are around the town, that’s as far as we’re going to go,” he predicted.
“If you could do anything about derelict buildings, we’d appreciate it,” Des Jennings added, directly addressing Kilrush’s nine town councillors.
The Tidy Towns secretary also asked that general cleanliness in Kilrush improve radically. He pointed out that due to Kilrush Town Council’s lack of weekend street-cleaning cover, Kilrush’s chances of at least retaining their Tidy Towns gold medal were slipping.
“We may have had our first adjudication last Sunday and if we did, we’re in trouble,” Des Jennings said at the town council meeting on June 10.
However, Kilrush Town Clerk John Corry said that full weekend cleaning services would be restored to Kilrush for July and August.
With regard to the painting of four windows at the Inis Cathaigh Hotel, the Tidy Towns committee believe that it will help to improve their tidy town winning chances.
“We believe that the project has been an outstanding success and has drawn very favourable comment from the public. We hope to continue this co-operation to the other windows in the hotel,” the Tidy Towns statement said.
