An actress with North Clare roots looks destined for great things after appearing this week in RTÉ drama series Fair City.
Just three days after making her television debut, Aoibhin Garrihy, whose parents are from Clare, was offered a part in another series and will appear in a film to be screened later this year.
“It is all very exciting. It seems work breeds work,” said Dubliner Aoibhin. “I just found out on Wednesday that I got a part in Pat Shortt’s new series Mattie. We start filming for that next week. It is not a huge role but it will be great. I grew up watching Pat Shortt and D’unbelieveables was huge in our house and I went to one of his gigs too. I am also doing a short horror film to be screened in the Galway Film Festival, that is called Drip and is directed by Emma Roche,” she continued.
Aoibhin made her small-screen debut on Sunday, bringing Neasa Dillon to life on Fair City. Since then, the chemistry between her character and Damien has been increasing. She will be exiting the show later this week but RTÉ has assured Clare viewers she won’t be gone long.
“We are delighted to have a new cast member like Aoibhin on board and we are very excited to see what her character will bring to the screens of households in Ireland,” a spokesperson for the show told The Clare Champion.
“A lot happens this week. Damien and Neasa have a bit of a fling. Neasa has no loyalty and is just having the craic really. I’ll be on the show until Sunday and then I can’t say too much but Neasa will have another connection to Carraigstown in the future,” Aoibhin revealed.
“I love playing a character like this who is having fun and has a great sense of humour, it is so endearing. She uses what she has to get what she wants,” the young actress continued.
While Aoibhin lives in Dublin she regularly visits North Clare and her grandparents the Droneys in Bellharbour and the Garrihys in Doolin.
“I have warned them about what to expect from my role in Fair City,” Aoibhin joked.
“My grand-dad is musician Chris Droney. I’m not very musical but I suppose I’m staying in the arts field,” she concluded.
Since finishing college last May, Aoibhin has worked mainly in theatre but has already filmed a part in a new series called Love Hate, which will be shown in September.
