A YOUNG man died early on Wednesday afternoon after a saw he was using came in contact with a 20,000-volt power line at Hurlers Cross, near Shannon.
Twenty-seven-year-old Christopher Lysaght from Finniterstown, Adare, had been using an extendable saw to trim trees close to the power line. A number of attempts were made to revive him at the scene but proved unsuccessful.
He had been working with two other men at the site, who raised the alarm. The incident occurred between noon and 12.30pm.
A post mortem is to take place on on Thursday, while the Health and Safety Authority and the gardaí are both investigating.
Meanwhile, foul play is not suspected in the death of a man whose body was found close to Sixmilebridge Railway Station on Wednesday.
