Airmount prefix on the double for Oaks

An exciting double for Ferrybank owner-breeder, Ger Kiely, was undoubtedly the highlight of second round heats of the Roche’s Feeds Oaks at the Limerick Greyhound Racing Stadium on Saturday night. It was certainly an outstanding night for the Airmount prefix.Airmount Pearl (Kiowas Sweet-Trey-Water Girl) won the first part of the double. Showing great early pace from trap two in heat two, she led at the opening bend from Go Mandy but showed a clean pair of heels to the rest of the field down the far side to come home a seven lengths winner from Gogetembabe in trap four and Lass Cause in six, three lengths back. The time was 28.42.Litter sister Airmount Swank had a faster clock, 28.38, when winning heat four. Also showing great early pace to lead at the first, she was three-lengths up at the third and, while Lacken Rua came with a strong challenge on the way home, Airmount Swank was not to be denied …

Another draw in U-21 title race

Kilmaley 1-11Ballyea 0-14 Given the fact that this particular U-21 championship campaign had produced three draws prior to the final, all of them involving Kilmaley, it didn’t come as any great surprise that last evening’s decider ended all square at Cusack Park.

Late goal opens the door for Clooney-Quin

Clooney-Quin 2-12 St Joseph’s 1-14 FOR the second evening in succession, Cusack Park was the scene of a grandstand finish in an U-21 Hurling Championship tie as Clooney-Quin captured the club’s first ever title at this level when they beat St Joseph’s last Saturday. Trailing by two points with the game in the final minute of normal time, they launched an attack in search of a goal. That chance looked to have gone when substitute Gary Hogan saw his pile driver rebound off the crossbar. The ball fell to full-forward, Joe Clune, however, and he managed to find the net. Honours divided in key Cusack Cup encounters

Miltown 0-8 Doora-Barefield 1-5 ST Joseph’s Miltown remain top of the Cusack Cup table following their draw away to Doora-Barefield in Gurteen last Saturday afternoon. Playing with a strong breeze, Miltown led 0-6 to 0-1 at half-time with Dessie Molohan, Eoin Curtin and Graham Kelly doing their scoring. Luke Brannock scored the only first-half point for the home club, who were without U-21 hurlers Cathal Duggan, Alan O’Neill and Jarlath Colleran, while Greg and Enda Lyons were also unavailable. Doora-Barefield needed a goal to get back into the game and Ivor Whyte provided it halfway through the second half. Cathal O’Sullivan and David O’Brien added the points that secured a point for the 2011 county finalists. Dessie Molohan scored Miltown’s second-half points.
