ST Joseph’s Miltown remain top of the Cusack Cup table following their draw away to Doora-Barefield in Gurteen last Saturday afternoon.

Playing with a strong breeze, Miltown led 0-6 to 0-1 at half-time with Dessie Molohan, Eoin Curtin and Graham Kelly doing their scoring.
Luke Brannock scored the only first-half point for the home club, who were without U-21 hurlers Cathal Duggan, Alan O’Neill and Jarlath Colleran, while Greg and Enda Lyons were also unavailable.
Doora-Barefield needed a goal to get back into the game and Ivor Whyte provided it halfway through the second half. Cathal O’Sullivan and David O’Brien added the points that secured a point for the 2011 county finalists.
Dessie Molohan scored Miltown’s second-half points.

DOONBEG looked as if they were heading for their third successive Cusack Cup defeat last weekend, until a late fight-back helped them to secure a valuable draw. Playing at home, Doonbeg welcomed back Padraic Aherne from Australia, who played his first game of 2012 for The Magpies.
Éire Óg led 0-4 to 0-3 at half-time, although they had played with the wind. Eoin Glynn, Stephen Hickey and Darren O’Meara scored their first-half points, while David Tubridy scored all three of Doonbeg’s first-half points.
The visitors played good football for much of the second half and led by four points with the last 10 minutes approaching. Glynn and Stephen Hickey were again on target for the Ennis club during this period.
Doonbeg fought back manfully, though, with Paul Dillon, Tubridy and Frank O’Dea pointing before Tubridy equalised in the last minute.

AIDAN Moloney’s insight into his native Kilmurry-Ibrickane wasn’t enough to inspire Kilrush for their trip to Quilty in the Cusack Cup last Saturday. Having shocked Doonbeg in their previous game, Kilrush never troubled Kilmurry who had lost to Éire Óg in their last outing.
Although Kilmurry led 0-4 to 0-0 at one point, Kilrush rallied to tie the game at 0-4 each at half-time. Johnny Daly and Thomas Lernihan were on target for the winners in the first half.
However, Kilrush only managed a single point in the second half when David O’Shea pointed.
Kilmurry stretched their lead with top scorer Johnny Daly, Michael O’Dwyer, Peter O’Dwyer and Noel Downes pointing.

ALTHOUGH Ennistymon only scored one goal in the second half, they did enough to win their first Cusack Cup of the 2012 season. First-half goals from Seán McConigley were the key scores, with the first coming from the penalty spot. Come half-time, the home team led 2-5 to 1-1, with Shane Tubridy scoring the Gaels’ first-half total. Joe Dowling, Laurence Healy and Seán O’Driscoll scored the winners’ first-half points.
Aided by the breeze, Shannon Gaels fought back well during the second half, with Michael Coughlan kicking four points, three from frees.
Robert McDonagh scored Ennistymon’s sole second-half point.

Liscannor stretch their unbeaten run in Garry Cup

LISCANNOR maintained their 100% record in the Garry Cup when scoring their fourth win from four games on Saturday.
A strong performance from midfielder Brian Considine played a major part in this victory over Clondegad at the North Clare club’s venue.
The visitors were without influential Clare player Gary Brennan, along with members of the Ballyea U-21 team ahead of their county final.
They had the better of the first-half exchanges and would not have been flattered had they more of a lead at half-time. At the break, they were just a point ahead, 0-4 to 1-0, the winners’ goal coming from Clare captain, Alan Clohessy.
Clondegad had a goal chance in the opening minute but Pat Coffey was wide of the target after being put through by Shane Brennan. Their first-half points came from Paudge McMahon (2) Francis O’Reilly and Eoin Griffin.
McMahon stretched their lead at the beginning of the second half but soon after this, Brian Considine took control at midfield. He scored a point before substitute Ciarán and Niall Considine added like scores.
Paudge McMahon kept the visitors in contention but the home side kept their noses in front and Dara Blake sealed victory when he shot the final point of the day.

LISSYCASEY returned to winning ways in the Garry Cup when they overcame St Breckan’s at Lisdoonvarna on Saturday evening.
Playing with the aid of the breeze in the first half, the winners looked to be in trouble when they went to the break leading by just four points. However, they stepped up a gear after the break and played their best football to emerge as deserving winners.
Francis Hayes and Niall Kelly (2) were the goalscorers on the day. St Breckan’s had their goal from Raphael Considine.

Cooraclare 0-12

TRAILING by six points at half-time, things didn’t look good for O’Curry’s in this league tie against Cooraclare on Saturday. However, with the assistance of the wind in the second half, they fought their way back and Michael Foran kicked the winning point shortly before the full-time whistle.
Cooraclare had the better of the first half exchanges and were full value for their half time lead of 0-10 to 0-4.
With centre back Sean Haugh coming forward at every opportunity and with Tom Roche, Michael Carmody and Derek Troy in impressive form, the Doonaha based outfit got the upperhand in the second half and gradually picked off the points.
Ger Quinlan (3) Derek and Eoin Troy, Michael Carmody and Michael Foran (2) each, Damian Carmody and Jim Downes scored for the winners. John Looney, with 0-7 was the game’s top scorer while Cooraclare’s other points came from teenager Joe Downes, who had an impressive outing, Thomas Donnellan, Michael Kelly and Rory Donnelly.

CRATLOE travelled to Kilkee on Friday evening and defeated the home side in round four of the Garry Cup.
A feature of the game was the contribution of Cratloe wing-back Enda Boyce who scored 0-5, three frees and one 45’.
The seasiders played with the aid of the breeze in the first half and led by two points at half-time when the score was 0-6 to 0-4.
Cratloe got the upperhand after the break and went on to score a merited victory.
