Ennis Track dominate cross country

ENNIS Track were the best overall club after day one at the Clare Athletics Association Novice, Masters Men’s and Ladies plus the Juvenile Even Ages (U-8 to U-18) Cross Country Championships, which were held on the lands of John and Bríd Collins, Kilnaboy. Underfoot conditions were heavy following last week’s heavy rain but entries were still very high.

Second league defeat for St Senan’s

St Senan’s, Shannon 11    Cobh Pirates 14 St Senan’s started this first division junior league game with a determination to put last week’s defeat against Clonmel behind them. They were rewarded in the second minute when, following an infringement by the Cobh backs, they won a penalty that Philip Noone easily converted.

Russell strikes twice for West Clare

  West Clare FC 2   Ennis Town Rock B 1 WEST Clare FC, who just missed out on promotion to the second division last season, got this season off to a great start when they captured the Third Division League Cup at the County Grounds in Doora on Sunday. Ennis Town Rock B made a great start and they took the lead after just 11 minutes, when Cody Fitzgerald scored. They had the better of matters for most of this half but a stubborn West Clare defence held firm, with goalkeeper Raymond McAuley pulling off a couple of great saves. When they did go forward, the pact of the Russell brothers, Jason and Jamie, caused problems for the Ennis side. Ten minutes from the break, they levelled when Jamie Russell rose highest to direct a powerful header to the corner of the Ennis Town Rock’s net. The sides went to the break at 1-1. Spanish Point seniors open day attracts big numbers

Spanish Point hosts a senior open each Tuesday for male and female golfers and this is particularly popular during the winter months, as the course stays dry. Scoring has been very good in the past few weeks, with the leading players regularly returning 38 points and over and last week’s competition was no exception when Patrick O’Boyle won with 42 points in tough conditions.
