Fatal accident at Castleconnell

Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred in the townland of Gooig, Castleconnell early on Sunday morning. At approximately 6.15am a pedestrian was struck by a car and was fatally injured. His body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick and a post mortum will take place. The driver of the car was uninjured. Gardaí are seeking any persons who may have travelled in the townland of Gooig or in the vicinity of Daly’s Cross between 6am and 6.30am on Sunday to contact them at Henry Street Garda Station on 061 – 212400 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

Election poster warning from RSA

With the General Election upon us, the Road Safety Authority (RSA) has cautioned candidates, political parties and their campaign workers of the need to take extra care when positioning campaign posters. The RSA is advising that election posters should not be placed at the roadside in such a way that they obscure road signs, particularly those that relate to the Rules of the Road and road user safety. These would include Regulatory Signs such as ‘STOP’ and speed limit signs; Warning Signs such as junction and road works signs; as well as information signs which provide directions.They should not be placed in known collision prone zones, where they risk distracting drivers and where campaign workers may be at risk when putting them up. Pedestrian fatally injured in Ardrahan

Gardaí  in Gort are investigating a two vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the N18, approximately 2 kms on the Galway side of Ardrahan, shortly after 12.30am this Monday. A pedestrian, a 66-year-old man, was fatally injured when he was struck by a car. The car also struck a parked garda car injuring the two gardaí, who were outside the car at the time. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body taken to University Hospital Galway. The two gardaí were taken to University Hospital Galway with injuries described as non life threatening. They remain in hospital. The man in his 40s, who was the driver of the first car, was arrested at the scene and taken to Gort Garda Station and has since been released. This stretch of the N18 is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place. Gardaí wish to appeal for witnesses …

Gardaí investigate An Post employees

A Kilrush garda investigation into an An Post employee is ongoing. The investigation dates back to December 2015 when gardaí were contacted on the issue. It is likely that file will be prepared and sent to the DPP. Meanwhile, it is understood that Ennis gardaí are conducting a separate investigation into an An Post employee.

Drugs seizure in Limerick

As part of an intelligence led, joint operation, with An Garda Síochána, Revenue officers today (Monday) seized 1.6 kgs of Cannabis Herb with an estimated street value of approximately €32,000 at Newcastle West, Limerick. The drugs had been sent in freight from the Netherlands. Two men, aged 32 and 46, were arrested, by gardaí and detained at Henry Street Garda Station, under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996. Investigations are continuing.

Garda Alert for missing man

Gardaí are seeking the public’s assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 37-year-old Ross Minihan missing from Rathbane, Limerick City since December 17 last. Mr Minihan is a resident of Sixmilebridge. Ross, who was last seen in Rathbane, Limerick at approximately 10pm on December 15, is described as being 5’7″ in height, of medium build with short brown hair, beard and moustache. It is believed that Ross may have been wearing a black Newcastle United jacket with pink trim, brown corduroy trousers and brown shoes when last seen. Decrease in road deaths

A provisional review of road fatalities for 2015 shows that as of December 22 there have been 154 deaths, following 148 fatal collisions on Irish roads. This represents 37 fewer deaths (-19%) and 29 fewer fatal crashes compared to the same period in 2014. Commenting on the provisional review, published by the Road Safety Authority and An Garda Síochána, Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe, said,“While every death is one too many, the progress we are making in reducing the number of fatalities on our roads is encouraging. It is estimated, however, that a further eight people may die over the Christmas period, further highlighting the fact that the opportunity is there for each and every one of us to prevent this from happening by making good choices whether we are out walking, cycling, biking or driving. “But not only can we save more lives we also have the possibility of making 2015 the safest year on our …

Garda Alert: Ennis man missing

Gardaí are seeking the public’s assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 20-year-old Ennis man, Michael Bugler, missing from Galway city since Friday last. Michael was last seen in the Quay Street area, Galway City on Friday night at approximately 1am. Michael is described as being 5’9″ in height, of thin build with short brown hair and blue eyes. When last seen Michael was wearing a grey coloured jumper and jeans.
