Gardaí are seeking the public’s assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 13-year-old Thomas Delaney missing from Limerick since yesterday (Wednesday). He is described as being black, 4’ 5” in height, of slim build, with blue eyes and short blonde/ brown hair. When last seen Thomas was wearing a grey Adidas tracksuit. Gardaí in Ennistymon are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred yesterday afternoon (Wednesday). The collision beetween a car and a motorcycle occurred at approximately 4.45pm at Doonagore, Doolin on the R47. The scene of the collision is 8km outside Doolin and the road is locally known as the Coast Road. The front seat passenger of the car, a 35-year-old man, was seriously injured and pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to the morgue in Limerick. The male driver and a female passenge, both in their mid 30s, were also injured in the collision and taken to Galway University Hospital and Limerick Hospitals. Their injuries are described as non life threatening. The motorcyclist was seriously injured and is being treated at Limerick Hospital. An Garda Síochána, will conduct a national speed enforcement operation “Slow Down”, supported by Clare County Council, the Road Safety Authority and other stakeholders for a 24-hour period from 7am on Friday next to 7am on Saturday. The objective of the initiative is to reduce the number of speed-related collisions. The higher the speed, the greater the likelihood is of a collision happening and the more severe the outcome of that collision. As a general rule a 1% reduction in average speed will bring about a 4% reduction in fatal collisions, and this is why reducing motorists’ speed is essential to improving road safety. The “Slow Down” operation will consist of high-visibility speed enforcement activities as well as the delivery of a road safety message through the media. In addition, Garda personnel will man display stands at key venues to provide road safety advice and distribute road safety leaflets.

THERE has been an increase in quad bike thefts in the last few days, in particular in the greater Limerick area, IFA Rural Crime Prevention executive, Colin Connolly has revealed. He is urging farmers to be on alert and to ensure they take steps to secure their quads, lawnmowers and other valuables. Mr Connolly offered the following advice to keep quads secure: Park the quad out of sight, in an area that is not easily accessible. Where possible secure the quad inside a shed. A good idea is to chain the quad to a floor anchor inside the shed. A floor anchor can be installed very easily in any shed or yard. Make sure this shed is locked when not in use and alarm it, if possible. If the quad is outside, think about where you park it. Park it behind larger more difficult to move items, think bigger blocking method or consider a floor or ground anchor. Anything that …

As part of an ongoing operation targeting criminal activity in the Limerick City area gardaí searched up to 20 houses in the city early this morning. One man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with this investigation and is currently detained at Roxboro Road Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984. A number of items including mobile phones, laptops were seized during this operation. Investigations are continuing.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) and An Garda Síochána are asking all road users to act responsibly and safely on the roads over the St Patrick’s Day festival period. In particular, drivers are being warned of the dangers of driving the morning after a night of drinking where their driving could still be significantly impaired by alcohol. In the five year period 2011-2015 a total of 15 people lost their lives and a further 34 people were seriously injured in road collisions between March 16-18. Ms Moyagh Murdock, chief Executive of the RSA said, “St Patrick’s Festival is traditionally a time for people to enjoy a break from work, school or college, and enjoy the festivities around the country. We’re not suggesting that people don’t enjoy themselves but we would urge people to act safely and responsibly, particularly when it comes to alcohol and road use. Gardaí are investigating a two vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the N18 at Clarinbridge, County Galway at around 8.30am this morning (Monday). A woman in her 30’s was fatally injured when the car she was driving was involved in a collision with a truck. The sole occupant of the car, she was pronounced dead at the scene and her body removed to University Hospital Galway. This stretch of road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Traffic travelling south on the N18 is being asked to divert at Oranmore. Traffic travelling north is being diverted at Kilcolgan. Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred in the townland of Gooig, Castleconnell early on Sunday morning. At approximately 6.15am a pedestrian was struck by a car and was fatally injured. His body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick and a post mortum will take place. The driver of the car was uninjured. Gardaí are seeking any persons who may have travelled in the townland of Gooig or in the vicinity of Daly’s Cross between 6am and 6.30am on Sunday to contact them at Henry Street Garda Station on 061 – 212400 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
