Ennis man dies in Tenerife accident

AN Ennis accountant who was holidaying with his wife at Playa Paraiso in Tenerife has tragically died as a result of a fall. Financial accountant Johnny Mulcaire was holidaying with his wife, Noelle, in the resort on the Costa Adeje when the fatal accident occurred last Saturday night. The couple arrived at the apartment on Thursday for the break that 56-year-old Mr Mulcaire had booked online. “Noelle had gone to bed and Johnny said he’d follow her up but, unfortunately, he seems to have locked himself out of the complex. “He went to go around a fence into the pool area but slipped and struck his head fatally after falling 20ft,” said his brother, Mike. Noelle’s brother, John Bane and her son, Darragh flew out to Tenerife on Monday to be with her. Accident victim dies in hospital

A 25-year-old Kilmihil man died in Cork University Hospital on Thursday night, four days after being injured in a road traffic accident. Colum Callinan was the sole occupant of the car in the single vehicle accident, which occurred on Sunday morning on the Kilmihil to Knockalough road. After being attended to at the scene by local emergency services, he was airlifted to hospital. A popular young man, his death has caused sadness among the local community. ICSA president: include H&S in primary education

Following another tragic farm accident involving children, ICSA president Patrick Kent has again called for health and safety education to be included in the primary school curriculum. An eight-year-old girl died and an 11-year-old girl was critically injured in a farm accident near Newtownshandrum in north Cork on Sunday evening. The two children, who were not sisters, were staying with friends of their parents for the weekend when the incident occurred. The eight-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 11-year-old was brought to Cork University Hospital. “No child should leave primary school without an awareness of health and safety issues including farm safety and road safety,” said Mr. Kent. “We have previously called on Minister Coveney to explore this proposal with his counterpart in the Department of Education and Skills, and our call has also been supported by the Board of Education of the Church of Ireland. Pedestrian fatality on Ennis to Limerick road

Gardaí at Mayorstone in Limerick are continuing their investigation into a fatal accident involving a pedestrian on the main Ennis to Limerick road at Meelick on Saturday morning. A 27-year-old man, who was walking along the hard shoulder of the road, was struck by a truck at 6.45am. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was not injured. It is understood the deceased had been a guest at a wedding at the Radisson Hotel. A section of the road, between the Radisson hotel and the Coonagh roundabout,was closed for a Garda technical examination of the scene.

Man arrested for questioning in fatal hit and run

GARDAI investigating a fatal traffic collision, which occurred at about 8.30pm on Wednesday night on the Gort Road in Loughrea have arrested a man in his 20s. The man has been detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Loughrea Garda Station and can be detained for up to 24 hours. A cyclist, 68 year old John White, St Laurences Field in Loughrea, was fatally injured in the collision. He was taken to University College Hospital Galway where he was later pronounced dead. A post mortem was carried out yesterday afternoon by State Pathologist, Prof Marie Cassidy.

Cyclist fatally injured in hit and run

GARDAI are investigating a traffic collision, which occurred at about 8.30pm on Wednesday night on the Gort Road in Loughrea, in which a male cyclist was fatally injured. The man, in his late 60s, was struck by a car close to pedestrian lights on the Gort Road and the offending vehicle drove away from the scene in the direction of Gort. The offending car, which is believed to have been a blue BMW with a partial registration of 01, would have visible damage to the bonnet and front. It is also believed that the car has a defective right rear light. The injured cyclist was taken to University College Hospital Galway where he was pronounced dead shortly before 2am. A post mortem examination will be held later today by Prof Marie Cassidy, the State Pathologist. East Clare man dies in traffic accident

A YOUNG man from East Clare died in a single car traffic accident on the north-bound lane of the M7 motorway near Roscrea last night. The deceased has not yet been officially named but is from a well-known family in the East Clare community, where the news has been treated with shock. He and three other passengers were returning to college in Dublin after a weekend at home. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and removed to Limerick Regional Hospital where a post mortem is due to take place today. The three other occupants, two young women and a man, were taken to Portlaoise Hospital but were later released. Gardaí carried out a technical examination of the accident scene close to Jct 22 ( Roscrea) and issued an appeal for any witness to contact them at Roscrea or any garda station.
