Tourist dies after SatNav gives ‘wrong directions’

A Polish tourist was killed in a car accident near the Cliffs of Moher two years ago after a driver was confused because his SatNav told him to go in the wrong direction. At Ennis Circuit Court, counsel for the State, Lorcan Connolly, said the State accepted that Grzegorz Barski’s SatNav telling him to go straight on instead of taking a right for the Cliffs of Moher at a junction was a contributory cause in the fatal accident on May 31, 2016. In the crash, the front-seat passenger in Mr Barski’s car, Grzegorz Frydrych died while a motorcyclist, Charles Killeen, who collided with the car, suffered head injuries, including a fractured skull and multiple broken facial bones and was hospitalised for one month. Mr Barski, (36), of Jugback Crescent, Swords, Co Dublin pleaded guilty to careless driving causing the death of Mr Frydrych and careless driving causing serious bodily harm to Mr Killeen. Fatal accident in Ennis

Gardaí in Ennis are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred at Woodstock, Shanaway Road, Ennis, in the early hours of this morning, Easter Sunday. At approximately 4.20am  a male passenger (18 years) was fatally injured when the car he was in, hit a wall directly oppposite Woodstock Hotel. The other occupants, the driver and passenger (both young men, 19 and 21 years) were seriously injured and were removed to University Hospital Limerick. None of the three young men has been named. Garda forensic collision investigators are on the since, where the vehicle is screened off, and there are some diversions. Witness appeal to fatal accident

Gardaí investigating a fatal road traffic collision at Tubberyquinn in Ballyneety, Co. Limerick, shortly after midnight on Tuesday are appealing for witnesses. A 17 year-old male was fatally injured and three other males were injured ,one seriously, when the black Mazda 6, registered number 05 D 7435, they were traveling in, struck a ditch. All three are being treated at University Hospital Limerick. The car was seen in the Childer’s Road and Roxboro areas in the hour before the crash. It then drove on the motorway and took the Dooradoyle exit. Gardaí at Roxboro Road Garda Station are asking witnesses, or anyone with information or who may have seen this car prior to the crash, to contact them on 061 214340.

Man dies in Meelick crash

A man in his 20’s has died and a woman is in a serious condition in hospital following a single vehicle crash in Meelick earlier today. The incident occurred at around 4am at Woodcock Hill. It is understood the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a tree. The male driver of the car was seriously injured and pronounced dead at the scene. His body was removed to University Hospital Limerick. The female passenger, aged 25, was injured and taken to University Hospital Limerick with what gardai say were serious injuries. Fatal accident near Loughrea

Gardaí at Ballinasloe are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision which occurred at Coolagh, near Loughrea, in the early hours of the morning. The collision occurred at approximately 2.45am on the Loughrea to Killimor Road, about three miles outside Killimor,when the car collided with a concrete barrier.The 26 year-old male driver was seriously injured and taken to University College Hospital Galway. He was later pronounced dead in hospital. No other persons were involved. The road was closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened. Fatal accident at Doolin

Gardaí in Ennistymon are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred yesterday afternoon (Wednesday). The collision beetween a car and a motorcycle occurred at approximately 4.45pm at Doonagore, Doolin on the R47. The scene of the collision is 8km outside Doolin and the road is locally known as the Coast Road. The front seat passenger of the car, a 35-year-old man, was seriously injured and pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to the morgue in Limerick. The male driver and a female passenge, both in their mid 30s, were also injured in the collision and taken to Galway University Hospital and Limerick Hospitals. Their injuries are described as non life threatening. The motorcyclist was seriously injured and is being treated at Limerick Hospital. Fatal accident at Clarinbridge

Gardaí are investigating a two vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the N18 at Clarinbridge, County Galway at around 8.30am this morning (Monday). A woman in her 30’s was fatally injured when the car she was driving was involved in a collision with a truck. The sole occupant of the car, she was pronounced dead at the scene and her body removed to University Hospital Galway. This stretch of road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Traffic travelling south on the N18 is being asked to divert at Oranmore. Traffic travelling north is being diverted at Kilcolgan. Fatal accident at Castleconnell

Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred in the townland of Gooig, Castleconnell early on Sunday morning. At approximately 6.15am a pedestrian was struck by a car and was fatally injured. His body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick and a post mortum will take place. The driver of the car was uninjured.
