Willie Clancy CD to hit shelves

ARCHIVED RTÉ and RMG Chart recordings of Willie Clancy are to be released as part of a new double CD.
RTÉ and RMG Chart will release the double CD entitled Willie Clancy: The Gold Ring on Friday, December 4.
The album is made up of 65 recordings of Willie Clancy and the tracks were selected by RTÉ radio presenter and producer Peter Browne and have been sourced from the RTÉ Libraries and Archives, as well as number of other organisations and private collectors.
The double CD is a most comprehensive collection of Willie Clancy’s piping from a period of over 20 years. It brings together recordings from many different places, times and sources and provides the opportunity to hear over two and a half hours of his playing.
Commenting on the album, Peter Browne said, “As well as paying homage to one of the country’s most talented musicians this production gives the listener the chance to experience the wealth of material in the RTÉ Libraries and Archives”.
The album, will go on general sale from Friday next and is accompanied by a 32-page illustrated booklet giving a history of Willie Clancy’s life, the influences in his music, his learning of the pipes and also a detailed history of the various tunes.
