Surfing into an inclusive future

CLARE people with physical disabilities could be on the crest of a wave surfing in Lahinch next year thanks to the efforts of local surf instructors. Last year, West Coast Surf Club (WCSC) members completed training in Lahinch with Liquid Therapy, Surfing Ireland’s inclusion organisation. WCSC Inclusion Officer, Nuria Smyth, Maeve Johnston and Abbey Wing completed a new course hosted by Liquid Therapy and delivered by Surf Ability UK on how to use adaptive surf boards for people who may not have the full use of their legs or arms. Course tutors taught the Lahinch surf instructors how to provide surf lessons for people with reduced mobility using different types of special surf boards.
