TEN years after the vision of a multifunctional arts venue for Shannon was floated, the directors of the Shannon Venue Limited have facilitated the transfer of their site at the Town Centre to Clare County Council. In a statement the directors said the sale of the site “has been completed to enable the Council to develop the One Shannon Hub, an iconic, multi-functional civic and community facility in the heart of Shannon Town Centre.” Recent years have seen much disillusionment regarding the lack of recreational facilities and amenities in the town, and the fact that the Venue never got the support required to see it come to pass was a very sore point for many local people. Clare have secured a home venue for the semi-final of the Oscar Traynor inter league junior soccer competition. On the weekend of March 19/20, the Donie Garrihy managed Clare league side will entertain either the Donegal League or the North East league who play their quarter final tie on this Sunday in Letterkenny. The draw was made at the AUL complex in Dublin on Wednesday night at half time in the quarter final tie between the Leinster senior league and the AUL, a tie won by the Leinster side after a penalty shootout. Clare manager Donie Garrihy and coach Denis Hynes were present at the draw and Clare were first out of the hat. “I am delighted that we have a home tie. By Seamus Hayes The Gaelic Grounds in Limerick will host the Munster club hurling final between Clare champions Cratloe and Limerick’s Kilmallock on Sunday week, November 23, when the throw in time will be 2p.m. The venue was decided on the toss of a coin at the Munster council offices in Limerick on Tuesday evening. Following the meeting of Crusheen and Limerick’s Na Piarsaigh in the 2011 Munster final when the council’s decision to stage that game at Thurles received much criticism, the provincial body decided that in any similar situation in the future where teams from neighbouring counties would clash, a toss of a coin between the respective county grounds would take place to determine the venue. Clare will have home advantage for their first round hurling qualifier tie after been drawn against Wexford. A meeting of the competitions control committee at Croke Park this Monday afternoon will when this game will take place. Two of the four games are due to be played this coming weekend with the remaining two a week later. Already scheduled for the second weekend is the meeting of Tipperary and the losers of the Galvay v Kilkenny replay, a fixture which is sure to attract huge attention regardless of who will provide the opposition for Tipperary. Sunday’s football league tie between Clare and Leitrim has been switched from Cusack Park in Ennis to Hennessy Park in Miltown. Friday night’s heavy rain has led to the decision to move the eagerly awaited round two tie to the West Clare venue where the throw in time will be 2p.m. Full back Kevin Hartnett and full forward David Tubridy, both of whom impressed in the first round win over Waterford last week, have been ruled out due to injury. In all the team will show four changes in personnel and some positional switches from that which won in Dungarvan.
