FOUR Clare students are among a record number to have been awarded Entrance Exhibition Awards from Trinity College Dublin. The awards go to the students accepted into the first year of a full-time undergraduate degree programme who achieve the highest points among Trinity entrants from their secondary school, above a minimum of 500 CAO points (or equivalent). The Clare recipients are: Lily Price from Colaiste Muire; Hugh Grogan, St Anne’s Community College; Ixim Dagge Hernandez, Ennistymon Vocational School and Nuoxi Zhang, St Flannan’s College. Many former awardees have gone on to make a significant contribution to the economic, cultural, and political life of Ireland and beyond. Past Exhibitioners include Tánaiste and former Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar. Of the 2021 entrants to Trinity, 686 students qualified for an award, up from 527 in 2020. FOR a young actor, being in lock-down while some of your highest-profile work graces screens around the world, must be something of an anti-climax. For Frank Blake, the enforced isolation in his native Tuamgraney, during the height of the buzz around Normal People, is not without its advantages, however. Frank, who plays the complex character of Alan in the adaptation of the award-nominated novel by Sally Rooney, has been using the time to explore his own screen-writing abilities. Given that his great aunt, Edna O’Brien, is one of the country’s greatest living authors, it’s probably a safe bet that he has more than a little literary talent. Now based in Dublin, the actor has been clocking up significant screen and stage roles, including a part in Druid’s landmark production of Richard III. TRINITY College Dublin have issued a statement following the death of one of their students, after a tragic fall at the Cliffs of Moher last Friday afternoon. The man is from India and it is understood that the tragedy happened when he was taking a photograph. The nearby Doolin Coast Guard unit responded to the accident as did Shannon based Rescue 115, which searched the area, where the man had fallen in. The man was removed to Doolin where he was pronounced dead. He was then removed to University Hospital Limerick for a postmortem.“We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of one of our students at the Cliffs of Moher on Friday afternoon.
