AN Ennis group of volunteers are working with well known Polish charity WOSP in transporting necessary supplies to the Polish/ Ukrainian border. WOSP is the biggest non-profit charity in Poland. WOSP are collaborating with local volunteers in Ennis through the local Polish School (Polanka) in transporting vital items for the Ukrainian refugees in the coming days. This is a nationwide project initiated by our Polish community. The items needed include, thermal blankets, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, hygiene products- toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, body wash, tampons, sanitary towels, cotton wool and baby wipes. Disposable plates, cups and cutlery. Baby food and formula. Disposable gloves and face masks. First Aid items- bandages, plasters and dressings. Powerbanks, USB charging cables, battery operated flashlights and batteries. TRAUMATISED victims of sexual abuse and rape will be forced to cope on their own for the next month, when Rape Crisis Midwest closes its outreach centre in Ennis. A funding shortage of €120,000 this year has meant the Ennis and Nenagh centres will close from Monday next until Monday, September 29. Psychotherapist and counsellor, Anne Ginnane works in the Ennis centre and is very worried about the impact of the closure on her clients. “I’ve spent a lot of time over the past four weeks preparing my clients for this closure. THE invaluable service that Rape Crisis Midwest provides from its Ennis centre is to be given a promotional boost this month. The county’s men are being urged to ‘walk a mile in her shoes’ to raise awareness of violence against women. After receiving a grant from COSC, The National Office for the Prevention of Domestic, Sexual and Gender-based Violence, Rape Crisis Midwest have been able to purchase a number of new promotional items to highlight their centre at the Tracklands Business Park and its website, www.rapecrisis.ie. To celebrate this, they are holding a promotional launch at Glór on Thursday, April 10 at 12.30pm. A number of special guests will be saying a few words, along with representatives from Rape Crisis Midwest.
