Centenary of Soroptimists commemorated in Ennis

SOROPTIMIST International have been described as “incredible ambassadors for women and girls in Ennis, Ireland, and around the world,” as a memorial honouring 100 years since the foundation of the organisation was unveiled in Ennis. Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, Councillor PJ Ryan recently unveiled a monument at the Memorial Peace Park in Ennis. Also at the ceremony an Irish oak tree donated by the Tree Council of Ireland to mark the centenary was planted and a time capsule has been buried underneath. Rosalie Byrne-Muir, President, Ennis and District Soroptimist Club, thanked the Cathaoirleach and Ennis Municipal District for providing the location for the memorial plaque and oak tree. “Buried beneath the plaque is a time capsule. This was the idea of our member, Sarah Malone. Sarah researched the time capsule, and encouraged members and clubs from all over the country to contribute items. Ennis Soroptimists dig deep to celebrate organisation’s 100th anniversary

THE Soroptimists Ennis & District Club is digging deep when it comes to plans to celebrate the 100th birthday of Soroptimist International. The Ennis chapter of the club is planning on burying a time capsule with the hope that in another 100 years it will be found and the work and activities of its members will be remembered in the future. The capsule will be buried in the Ennis Memorial Garden near glór and the planned new library, and the local organisation is inviting suggestions from the public for what items are to be included. Sarah Malone, outgoing President explained, “Soroptimist International is celebrating its 100 birthday this year. “What started in California in 1921 has grown to be a worldwide organisation of women, with 72,000 members in 121 countries dedicated to improving the lives of women and children. “To celebrate this the Ennis Club will bury a time capsule to ensure that its work and members are remembered 100 …
