Munster Senior Hurling Championship Final Limerick 1-26 Clare 1-20 A power cut delayed the throw-in in Semple Stadium but when the match eventually started, the lights also went out on Clare’s Munster challenge as they deservedly fell to history-makers Limerick who became the first ever team to win six successive provincial crowns, writes Eoin Brennan. This wasn’t Limerick’s most exceptional Munster decider display but it didn’t have to be as their opponents lacked the collective electricity of their previous two final battles to be able to match the kingpins. In essence, Limerick’s title-winning knowhow and more consistent balance throughout their side won the day as they brushed off an equalising Peter Duggan goal just before half-time to simply up the ante with a strong surge on the restart that saw the champions outscore their neighbours by 1-5 to 0-2 in the first eleven minutes capped off by Gearoid Hegarty’s 46th minute goal after man-marking confusion in the Clare defence allowed the …

The TUS Gaelic Grounds is set to host the eagerly anticipated Munster SHC Final between Clare and Limerick on Sunday, June 11. Páirc Uí Chaoimh was on course to stage the game until an eleventh-hour intervention from Clare. The venue was due to be announced on Monday evening but Clare requested the Munster Competitions Controls Committee to postpone the decision so they could explore the possibility of the TUS Gaelic Grounds hosting the game. Clare go in search of their first Munster title since 1998 while they seek revenge for last year’s defeat at the same stage to Limerick. Brian Lohan’s men secured a vital win over Limerick in their second game of the Championship at the TUS Gaelic Grounds in April. These sides have met in seven Munster SHC Finals with only one of those staged at the TUS Gaelic Grounds. That clash occurred in 1955 with Limerick prevailing on the day. Clare have only defeated Limerick in one Munster SHC …

AS the clock ticks closer to the Munster senior hurling final, one of the big talking points is the likely line-up of the side to face Cork. David McInerney is winning his battle to be fit, having suffered a hamstring injury when playing for his club Tulla in a Clare Champion Cup tie almost four weeks ago. He played in an internal game on Sunday last and is expected to be named at full-back on Sunday. Oisin O’Brien has returned to action after a near six-month lay-off due to a knee injury suffered at the beginning of the season. He has participated in training and internal games for the past few weeks, while he played a full league game with Clonlara two weeks ago. Recognised as a leading man-marker, there is much speculation that he will be in the starting line-up and given the task of following Conor Lehane, who has sparkled for Cork in their two championship games to …

Talk of making history by wining a third successive Munster U-21 hurling title this Wednesday evening at Cusack Park doesn’t interest Donal Moloney, Clare’s joint manager. “We are not interested in history. This is a new team, the last 3 teams have been distinct teams, there have been common players but this is a new group of guys. It’s a different team which has to find its own spirit and its own life. This is their Munster final to win, it’s not a team together for 3 years”, the Scariff native said after seeing the team defeat Tipperary in a cracking semi-final that required extra time “We respect the fact that Cork are in the final. We expect a massive battle and we look forward to it”, Moloney went on. “Cork on a high after their Munster senior final win, Pat Kenneally is in charge of them and we know from playing them early in the year that they are …
