The Burren will be showcased to one of the most lucrative tourism markets in the world after Black Head was used as the backdrop of Vogue, earlier this week. Irish photographer, Boo George, who was shooting for Emporio Armani at Dollymount Strand, last week, used the stark North Clare scenery as the setting for the fashion feature, with top international model, Aymeline Valade. Vogue is one of the top fashion magazines in the world and producer of this shoot, Laura Oughton, believes, “It is the perfect opportunity to let people see this area and hopefully they will want to come and visit and see where we shot the story.” She added that this was her first time in Ireland but she would definitely be back. “There are so many different types of scenery here and so much we can shoot,” Ms Oughton said. TOURISM is one of the main drivers of the Clare economy and in the North Clare region the Burren plays a pivotal role in this sector. Next Wednesday night, an information and network event will be held to showcase the activities, adventures, food and heritage of the Burren Region. The Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark, in conjunction with the Burren Ecotourism Network, will host The Burren Tourism Story 2014, at the Pavilion, Lisdoonvarna from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. The event will feature information stands, food tastings, the launch of the Burren’s first adventure and activities trail, and guest presentations from author and green business lecturer Prof. Finbarr Bradley; head of programmes and delivery Fáilte Ireland, Fiona Monaghan and award-winning travel writer and journalist, Pól O’Conghaile. Tina O’Dwyer, sustainable tourism co-ordinator, Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark explained that the primary purpose of the upcoming event will be to highlight the variety and quality of visitor attractions and activities on offer …

FÁILTE  Ireland wants all Clare communities to row in behind the 2014 Wild Atlantic Way tourism initiative.  The tourism authority will be holding a series of community meetings along the west coast with one taking place in the Armada Hotel, Spanish Point on Wednesday night next. Encouraging communities to get involved, Fiona Monaghan from Fáilte Ireland said ,“Over the coming weeks we will be holding a series of community briefings so that you can learn more about the Wild Atlantic Way, share ideas and work together. These events are all about making sure your local area gets the most out of this  initiative.” The Wild Atlantic Way is a long distance touring route from Donegal to West Cork with a total length of 2,500km showcasing the Atlantic coastline. The objective is to link the destinations and attractions along the route together, with the ultimate aim of creating a variety of experiences and attracting more international visitors to the West Coast. …
