Gardaí have seized almost half a million euro worth of drugs following two searches carried out in Meelick and O’Briensbridge on Tuesday night. The controlled substance has yet to be analysed but is believed to be heroin. The seizure was made by garda in Limerick and Clare arising from an ongoing operation into the sale and supply of controlled substances in the Limerick Division and in neighbouring counties. One man has been arrested and is currently being detained at Roxboro Road Garda Station in Limerick under drug trafficking legislation. He can be held for questioning without charge for up to a week.

GARDAÍ seized a quantity of drugs and arrested a man in his 30s in Ennis last night. In a planned operation, Ennis gardaí searched a house at Kilvoyden, Spancillhill and during the course of the search a quantity of cannabis herb, with an estimated street value (subject to analysis) of €200,000, was discovered. A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene and he is currently detained at Ennis Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996. He can be detained for up to seven days. The scene remains preserved and a technical examination of the area will take place later today. This is the latest in a number of cannabis finds in Clare in recent times, while gardaí in other parts of the country have also had similar successes in the ongoing fight against drugs.

A SEIZURE of 240 cannabis plants in East Clare on Wednesday brought the approximate street value of plants found in separate garda searches around the county to €1.29 million in the past week. Gardaí seized 240 cannabis plants with an approximate street value of €190,000 at a house in Faha, Cahir at 2.30pm on Wednesday. The seizure was made as a part of an ongoing operation into the sale and supply of illegal drugs in the Clare area by the Clare Divisional Drugs Unit. There were no arrests as part of the search. The scene was being preserved for technical examination on Wednesday evening. GARDAÍ in Kilrush have seized drugs with an estimated street value of €500,000 after they uncovered a growhouse in West Clare this week. The cannabis cultivation operation was located at a house at Breaffa, a townland approximately one mile from the seaside village of Carraigaholt, on Wednesday, January 8. During the operation, gardaí discovered 600 plants growing and evidence of in excess of 500 harvested plants. According to gardaí, but pending analysis, the drugs seized may have a street value of almost €500,000. The search and seizure was part of an operation targeting the cultivation of cannabis in the locality. The scene was preserved and a technical examination of the area has been carried out. Gardaí seized cocaine with an estimated street value of €20,000 from a house in Shannon on Tuesday evening. Following the seizure, which was made at a house in Finian Park, a 40-year-old man was arrested. The seizure was made as part of a planned operation targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Shannon area. The planned search of the house was carried out at approximately 8.30pm on Tuesday and during the course of the search, cocaine, with an estimated street value of up to €20,000 pending analysis, was discovered. A 40-year-old male was arrested at the scene and detained at Shannon Garda Station under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996. Meanwhile, a small amount of cannabis herb, worth €700, was also seized by gardaí in a separate follow-up search.
