St Senan’s and Kilfeakle share the spoils

St Senan’s   3    Kilfeakle   3
BOTH sides struggled to produce any open play in the first quarter of this First Division League game on Sunday as a strong cross wind made any attempts to move the ball impractical. When either of the sides did manage to break out, the soft ground restricted play.

The weather brightened midway through the half and the wind dropped allowing for more open play, unfortunately poor handling and positional mistakes prevented either side from dominating.
The only clear-cut scoring opportunities were restricted to two long-range penalty kicks for the visitors, both of which missed the target leaving the first half scoreless.
The pattern of play in the second half mirrored that of the first half, with neither side being able to take hold of the game. A number of indiscretions saw players from both sides spend time in the sin bin and Kilfeakle had a player red carded for dangerous play.
Once again, penalties were the only scoring options presented to either side and 23 minutes into the half, Kilfeakle took a 3-0 lead with a well-struck penalty. The sides drew level on 32 minutes when a Declan Collins penalty kick found the target.
This week, St Senan’s travel to third placed Kanturk with a 2.30pm kick-off time.
St Senan’s: Pa Ryan, Fergal Lawlor, Tony O’Brien, Aaron Skerritt, Aidan O’Callaghan, Jamie Keogh, Ian Fitzgerald, Dwane Horkin, Darragh McCoy, Noel Hoban, Barry Murphy, Neil McDonagh, Dylan Sonneman, Fernando Gallant, Declan Collins.
Replacements: Michael Cusack, David Webb, Gary Shaw, Eamonn O’Donoghue, Eoghan McNeill.

Important win for Scariff
Bandon   20    Scariff   30

SCARIFF came away from Bandon with a great away win on Sunday afternoon in this Division 2 League game. Tries from Steven Madden, Paul McTiernan and Robbie Madden with three conversions, two penalties and a drop goal from James Kelly left the Clare side 10 points clear of their opponents at the final whistle.
This was a very important win for Scariff as there are a number of teams closely bunched together in the bottom half of the table.
Newcastle West are the visitors to Scariff this weekend and big home support is expected for the final home game of 2011.
Scariff: David Harte, Colin Bugler, Paul McTiernan, Dara McNamara (captain), Rory Slattery, Conor Minogue, Darren McNamarra, Robbie Madden, Tom Cronin, James Kelly, Shane Gibbons, Steven Madden, Kenny Mason, Trevor Kelly, Conor McNamara.
Replacements: Marcus O’Neill, Tyrone Elliot, Joe McGrath, Eoin Brown, Joe Brody.

Ennis RFC U-11 Blitz

ENNIS U-11s travelled to Limerick last Sunday. Two teams went to UL Bohemians in Annacotty and the third to Shannon’s club grounds in Coonagh.
The other teams in Annacotty were Scariff and Old Crescent. While the weather was not great, the underfoot conditions were not too bad.
Ennis’ first game was against Old Crescent in which both sides rucked and defended well. Unfortunately, conditions made the ball slippery making free-flowing rugby hard to play. The second game was against UL Bohs, where they tackled well and played very well all the way through supporting and helping each other. The final game of the day was against Scariff.
Ennis Team 1: Ali Hussein, Ben Sullivan, Charlie Whelan, Conor McMahon, Dara Curran, Daniel Geraghty, Eoin Duggan, Eoin Hasessy, Fionn O’Brien, Matt Hanrahan and Sean Hehir.

Ennis team 2 played Old Crescent first and next up was Scariff. This game was very closely contested with one of the Scariff lads even donning an Ennis jersey due to an injury on the Ennis side. At this stage, weather conditions were taking their toll on all players with hands and feet in particular feeling the brunt of it. All the players showed great heart to play a third game against an equally gallant UL Bohs. This turned out to be the best display of the day by Ennis team 2 with great tackling and running capped off with some great tries.
Ennis team 2: Adam Harvey, Brendan Cleland, Bruce Pigott, Cormac Browne, Daniel Kelly, David Barbiton, Fergus Garvey, Isaac O’Brien, Jack Feeney, Noel Shannon and Ronan Liddy.

The third Ennis team travelled to Shannon RFC where both the weather and underfoot conditions were very bad. Due to the conditions, the team played two games against both Young Munster sides. The first game was evenly contested with the Ennis team narrowly beaten. The weather and wet pitch was taking its toll on all kids which made the second game more difficult.
Ennis Team 3: Luke Kelly, JJ Carrig, Caellum Browne, Jack Hassett, Conan Macleod, Cormac Whelan, Stephen Talty, Stephen McMahon, Rian Boylan, Cillian Casey and Emmet McMahon.
