Over the past number of weeks, 169 young athletes from all corners of Clare have been busy preparing for the national Community Games finals, which will take place at Athlone IT over the weekend of August 15 to 17. The competitors, in a variety of disciplines, will be attempting to maintain Clare’s great record at All-Ireland level. An eight-person team (four boys and four girls) will compete in the U-16 marathon. They are Caoimhe Harvey (Carrigaholt-Cross); Elaine Shannon (Ennistymon-Lahinch-Liscannor); Sharon Egan (Kilmihil); Grainne Kelly (Doora-Barefield); Sean Collins (Ennis St John’s); Eoin Looney (Miltown); Stephen Maher (Ballynacaly-Lissycasey) and Micheal Clancy (Doonbeg). Ennis St John’s will represent Clare in the mixed U-10 relay and their team members are Naomi O’Shaughnessy, Jeremiah Iwalewa, Cian O’Boyle, Ciara Meehan, Efe Opuoro and Niamh Cassidy.
