O’Callaghan’s Mills 0-15  Ballyea 0-15

BALLYEA and O’Callaghan’s Mills played out a hard-fought draw in this well-contested tie in Kilkishen on Monday.
The home side got off to a great start, scoring five points without reply but the visitors gradually got into the game with Gearóid O’Connell prominent at midfield and he was also doing well from placed balls hitting 0-5 in the first half with two from play. Paul Flanagan scored two points and Niall Deasy chipped in with a point.
The Mills held a 0-10 to 0-8 lead at the interval with their scores coming from Gary Neville (4), Adrian Flaherty (3), Niall Donovan, Fergus Donovan and Alan Duggan.
The second half continued to be a very close-fought tie but Ballyea will be disappointed with their finishing, while the home side were making better use of the chances that came their way. Gearóid O’Connell continued to play very well for Ballyea in the middle of the field and added on another five points to his tally to leave the minimum between the sides with a few minutes left. With time almost up, O’Connell won a free on the 40m line and duly converted to help his side to a deserved draw. Gary Neville (2) and Adrian Flaherty (3) were the home side’s scorers in the second half.

Smith O’Brien’s 2-16  Corofin 1-14

SMITH O’Brien’s kept up their good form in this year’s league when they accounted for Corofin at Killaloe on Monday.
In fairness, it must be pointed out that the visitors went into this tie without the likes of Darragh Shannon, Gerry Quinn, Luke O’Loughlin, Pat Ryan and Donnacda Kelleher due to injury and their absence was a major blow to the team.

With wind advantage to come, Smith O’Brien’s looked to be in a strong position but the visitors battled throughout the second half and made the home side fight to the end for victory.
