Engineers from Kilkenny were called to South Galway on Saturday to prevent another Christmas crisis in the town.
Residents and business owners in Gort awoke on Christmas Eve to find themselves without water after an electrical fault at the local treatment plant at about 5am.
“The fuse blew at 5am and the council had to call in a crew from Kilkenny to replace a unit. Luckily, thanks to the quick actions of Galway County Council and the engineers from Kilkenny, water was back again by about 5pm.
“A lot of people were without water on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day last year and that wasn’t something they were looking forward to this year but I think it was a good achievement that the council was able to get engineers on site so promptly, especially when they had to come from so far away,” said councillor and chamber of commerce PRO, Gerry Finnerty.
