GORT boxer Cliona D’Arcy is on the brink of a European gold medal.
Cliona has qualified for the final of the 81+kg European Youth Championship final, with a victory over Polish fighter Weronika Maja Bochen. In the final she will face the Ukrainian fighter Polina Cherenko.
The championships are being held in Sofia and Cliona’s final will be the last fight of today’s evening session, which begins at 3pm, Irish time. A stream of the fight will be available on the Irish Amateur Boxing Association’s website, www.iaba.ie.
Ireland has had a great championships, with the team guaranteed at least eight medals.
