Ennis plays host to Grade B Munster gala


ENNIS Swimming and Lifesaving Club recently played host to a Grade B Munster graded gala.
This gala marked the opening of the grade B season.  Although only two swimmers, Aoife Deane and Aoibheann Hogan attained their grade A times, the coaches were encouraged with what they saw as many swimmers just missed out on the times needed for advancement.
Medal winners on the day were:
Girls 8-11
Ivana Pyne had an excellent 100m backstroke earning a bronze medal in a time of 1:38.24.

Girls 12-13

Aoife Deane won a gold medal in her 100m backstroke in a time of 1:22.11 and three silver medals in the 100m and 200m freestyle and the 100m individual medley. Aoibheann Hogan won a gold medal in the 200m freestyle in a time of 2:37.97, a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke in 1:39.03 and a bronze medal in the 100m individual medley in 1:26.23.

Girls 14-15

Niamh Dolan captured the gold medal in the 100m backstroke finishing in 1:32.29 and a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle in 1:20.15. Leah Mulcaire put in a strong swim in the 50m butterfly and won the silver medal with a time of 43.38. Ailbhe Hogan won two bronze medals in the 100m individual medley in 1:29.99 and the 100m breaststroke in 1:40.80.

Boys 12-13

Eoin McNamara won silver medals in the 100m backstroke in 1:28.13 and the 100m individual medley in 1:26.52. Eoin also took home a bronze medal in the 200m freestyle finishing with a time of 2:46.00. Lorcan Casey won silver medals in the 200m freestyle in 2:45.54 and the 100m breaststroke in 1:37.23.

Boys 14-15

Eoin Hartigan won a gold medal in the 100m breaststroke in 1:33.99. Darragh Broderick won a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke in 1:36.17 and Alexander Carr won a bronze medal in the 100m backstroke in a time of 1:32.25.

Boys 16 and over

Mark McGovern won two silver medals in the 100m individual medley in 1:28.26 and the 100m breaststroke in 1:35.43. Mark also added bronze medals in the 100m and 200m freestyle.
Overall, the club won 25 individual medals (four gold, 12 silver and nine bronze) and six relay medals (three gold, one silver, and two bronze).
Other swimmers who achieved personal best times were Tara McEvoy, Eimear Wolf, Aoife Glavin, Meabh Moriarty, Aoife Barry, Hannah Wallace, Fiona Neylon, Rachel Amy McMahon, Sinéad Rooney, Hannah Bredin, Ailish Gowran, Ciara Murphy-Wright, Sarah McMahon, Daire Moloney, Laura McMahon, Katie Rose Healy, Caelinn Meaney, Aisling Mahony, Fiona Quinn, Orlaith Martin, Marley Haugh, Jack McGuinness, Nathan Coote, Cian Murphy, Ruairi Power, David Sheehy, Jack Shannon and Stephen Mullins.
