Avenue too strong for Rovers

AVENUE United advanced to the next round, a place in the last 32 in the FAI U-17 Cup when they scored an impressive win over a fancied Pike Rovers side on Saturday. With Lees Road closed, the match was played in Lisdoonvarna, where the pitch condition was excellent.
Rovers went into the game as one of the fancied sides for this title. They are the leading U-17 side in Limerick and their squad includes a number of players who have been called for international trials at various schoolboy levels.
Avenue United took the lead after 15 minutes when Brian Corry scored and they held this advantage to the break.
Ten minutes into the second half, Pike were back on terms but Avenue weren’t to be denied and they were back in front with 15 minutes remaining, when Dylan Casey was on target.
Overall, the game provided some excellent football and fans will be hoping for more of the same when the clubs clash this Saturday in the third round of the FAI Youths (U-18) Cup. Many of the same players will be in action in the game scheduled for Lees Road at 12 noon.

Munster Junior Cup
FOLLOWING their disappointing exit from the FAI Junior Cup last week, Avenue United will be keen to progress in the Munster Junior Cup.
In Round 3 of the competition, they play Connolly Celtic at Kilmaley on Sunday morning at 11am and will carry the favourites’ tag as they chase a place in the next round.
