Clonlara extend unbeaten run

Clonlara 1-14   Cratloe 0-8

CLONLARA continued their winning run in the Clare Champion Cup with this comfortable victory over Cratloe at the latter’s venue on Monday.
The visitors took a grip on proceedings from the start and raced into a four-point lead with scores from Colm Galvin, John Conlon (2) and Nicky O’Connell. The game was 11 minutes old before Gearóid Ryan had the home side’s opening score.
Clonlara continued to hold the upperhand in key areas and just before the half-time whistle, James Hastings got through for their goal. His first effort was well saved by Sean Hayes, who produced a couple of great stops, but Hastings was following up and scored at the second attempt to leave the score at 1-8 to 0-3 at the interval.
The winners had the opening two points of the second half to stretch their advantage to 10 points. Cratloe, clearly weakened by the absence of Conor McGrath, Cathal McInerney, Ogie Murphy and Paudge Collins due to injury, battled hard to the end but failed to match the all-round balance of the winners for whom Domhnaill O’Donovan, Nicky O’Connell, Cillian Fennessy, Colm Galvin, Cormac O’Donovan and John Conlon stood out.

After a low-scoring first half in which both sides missed a lot of chances, the home team were 0-4 to 0-2 in front. Inagh-Kilnamona 1-15   Whitegate 2-10

DESPITE a contribution of 2-6 from goalkeeper Andrew Fahy, Whitegate lost out by two points to Inagh-Kilnamona in this Division 1A Clare Champion Cup tie at Kilnamona on Saturday.
Fahy’s impressive haul was one of the main talking points after this hard-fought contest. Another talking point came inside the last 10 minutes when inter-county senior panellists, Brendan Bugler and Eamonn Glynn saw red. Referee Ger Lyons sent off both men after they clashed as the game moved towards the final whistle.
Whitegate got off to a dream start when goalkeeper Fahy made the journey upfield to crash a penalty to the net in the opening minute. They were evenly matched throughout the half and were on level terms, 0-7 to 1-4, when the half-time whistle sounded.
A goal from Ger Arthur helped the home side to move ahead in the second half but shortly before the end, the result was back in the melting pot when Fahy again made the journey upfield and this time blasted a 20m free to the net. It wasn’t enough, however, and the home side held on for victory on a day when Eamonn Glynn, until he was dismissed, and Ger Arthur caused problems for the visitors’ defence.
