Householders in Kilmurry McMahon and the surrounding areas will be getting into the swing of things during the June Bank Holiday weekend as part of a fundraising drive to raise over €140,000 for a new playground.
Crystal Swing has been secured as the headline act for the return of the Kilmurry McMahon marquee for the weekend.
The Adventure Playground Committee recently lodged a planning application to Clare County Council for permission to construct a children’s playground.
If planning permission is granted, the development will be located near the Shannon Gaels GAA pitch at Ballyguiry, Labasheeda, following a lease agreement with Shannon Gaels GAA Club, the current owners of the site.
It is expected the existing entrance to the GAA grounds will also be used to facilitate parents and children using the playground.
Plans lodged with the local planning department by Pádraig Neylon, PND Building Consultancy, indicate the gross floor space of the proposed development will be 1,178m2.
Committee  chairman David Neylon acknowledged the provision of a playground and multi-use games area is eagerly anticipated, as for many years locals have travelled to their neighbouring parishes.
“A new committee got together earlier this year and set about putting plans in place for the new development. Shannon Gaels GAA Club has been very generous in providing a site for us. We hope to have a grant of planning shortly. Once that is secured, we will be applying for Leader funding, which will help significantly towards the €140,000 cost of the development,” he said.
If the committee secure Leader funding, it will still have to raise over €35,000 as a local contribution and have raised €11,000 to date through the great support of the parish and surrounding areas.
