Points shared at Kilkishen

O’Callaghan’s Mills 0-15  Ballyea 0-15 BALLYEA and O’Callaghan’s Mills played out a hard-fought draw in this well-contested tie in Kilkishen on Monday.The home side got off to a great start, scoring five points without reply but the visitors gradually got into the game with Gearóid O’Connell prominent at midfield and he was also doing well from placed balls hitting 0-5 in the first half with two from play. Paul Flanagan scored two points and Niall Deasy chipped in with a point.The Mills held a 0-10 to 0-8 lead at the interval with their scores coming from Gary Neville (4), Adrian Flaherty (3), Niall Donovan, Fergus Donovan and Alan Duggan. The second half continued to be a very close-fought tie but Ballyea will be disappointed with their finishing, while the home side were making better use of the chances that came their way. Second-half goals gift victory to Doonbeg

Doonbeg 3-9  St Joseph’s Doora-Barefield 0-9 Scoring an equal amount in each half, albeit in a contrasting manner, Doonbeg scored a three-goal win over St Joseph’s in Gurteen last Saturday. The winners scored all their points in the opening half and all their goals in the second. They led 0-9 to 0-2 at half-time with David Tubridy (3), Brian and Colm Dillon, Kevin Nugent and Shane Ryan scoring, while first-half substitute Conor Downes also kicked two points. Cathal Duggan, who scored six of Barefield’s nine points, scored both of their first-half points. The home club played better in the second half and pulled the deficit back to four points, 0-9 to 0-5, with points from Duggan, Colm Mullen and Cathal O’Sullivan. However, David Tubridy struck for two goals, with Kevin Nugent adding a third to secure another win for Doonbeg. Crusheen secure Junior semi-final place

Crusheen 2-9  Tulla 1-0 CRUSHEEN are through to the league semi-final after defeating a physical Tulla team, with scores coming from Ann Marie McMahon from placed balls and Mary Rosengrave. Crusheen were stronger throughout the field with good displays from the O’Grady sisters, Carol O’Donnell and Marian Meaney. Tulla fought hard with the Torpey sisters doing well but Crusheen were too strong on the day. Clare U-16s bow out of Munster competition

Kerry 5-10  Clare 5-5 CLARE were beaten by Kerry in the Munster U-16A Championship on Monday in Doonbeg. With both Clare and Kerry falling previously to Cork, this game decided the Munster finalists.Clare played with a strong breeze in the opening half. Despite an earlier missed free, Kerry midfielder Laura Rogers pointed first. Clare spent most of the opening quarter on the Kerry 20m line and scored 1-3 with points from Katie Connole, Shauna Harvey (captain) and Niamh Carrucan. A superb goal from Aoife O’Gorman followed but Clare failed to convert a lot of possession that they would rue later on.The outstanding Laura Rogers poached a further point for the Southerners, followed by an Erin O’Driscoll goal taken at speed for the Kingdom but they then failed to register two frees on the scoreboard against a strong wind. Surfing for Ireland

Two Clare boys have been included on the Irish Junior Surf Team to compete at the 2011 Quicksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship taking place at Punta Hermosa, Peru from May 21 to 29. Cian Cagney, Ennis is one of the U-18s on the team while Donough Cronin, Lahinch is part of the U-16 team. Cronin is a new cap on the team. Still waves to be had in the West Coinciding with the amazing run of weather, the west coast has been getting some of the best surf conditions of the year. Does it get any better?This coming week’s waves may not be as promising but there’s still waves to be had. Friday, Monday and Tuesday look like being the most promising for days out. The waves look like being waist to chest high with moderate south and hopefully south-east winds. Any wind from the east is ideal for Clare surfers. It blows into the face of the wave, …

Clare athletes shine at Munster Masters

CLARE athletes won 11 gold, nine silver and eight bronze medals at the Munster Masters Ladies and Men’s Track and Field Championships, which were held recently at Cork IT, with the Juvenile U-12 to U-19 multi-events.In the masters’ championships, gold medals went to Aishling Power, Ennis Track, in the O-40s 200m; Michelle O’Mahoney, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare, in the O-45s 1,500m and Marian O’Loughlin, Ennis Track, in the O-50s 800m.Richard McArthur, St Cronan’s, scored a treble in the O-45s section in the 100m, 200m and high jump. Munster finals for Futsal winners

Clare Community Games were back in action again after the Easter break with the futsal competitions taking place on Saturday last in St Flannan’s College. The event was co-ordinated by Flan Brennan. The standard of competition was very high with some very exciting games. On Saturday morning, the boys’ competition involving five teams took place.Ruan were beaten by a much stronger Killimer-Knockerra. Ennis B were also beaten by Inch-Connolly-Kilmaley 5-1.In the semi-final Killimer and Inch-Connolly-Kilmaley were tied at full-time with Inch edging ahead in extra time to earn a place in the final. The final was a very exciting match with Ennis and Inch-Connolly-Kilmaley level at full time and again after extra time. Inch-Connolly-Kilmaley came out winners, 3-2 after a penalty shoot out. In the afternoon it was the turn of the girls with only four teams taking part. Sixmilebridge-Kilmurry beat Ruan 3-0 in a good match.
