President’s day at Lahinch and Woodstock

MEMBERS of Lahinch and Woodstock turned out in big numbers at the weekend to play for their respective presidents’ prizes. The Lahinch competition took place on Friday and Saturday, while Woodstock members played on Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile, in Ennis, the competition was the captain’s (Joe Carmody) prize.

Ruan 2-5   Ennistymon 1-3Ruan captured the U-14D title at a wet Cusack Park on Saturday but they were made fight all the way by gallant Ennistymon who will be wondering what the outcome might have been had they converted all of their chances, especially in the second half.

Moloney achieves A grade at end-of-season gala

THE Ennis Swimming and Lifesaving Club’s Grade B swimmers recently travelled to Tipperary town for their last gala of the season. The lone swimmer achieving her Grade A times was Daire Moloney. Overall, the club took home 40 medals in individual events (13 gold, 14 silver, 13 bronze) and seven medals in the relay events (three gold, two silver and two bronze).

National title for Alice Akers

THE Aviva All-Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships were held in Tullamore on Saturday and, once again, Alice Akers (Scariff Community College), with six rounds of throwing in the intermediate girls’ finals, recorded another great victory in the hammer with a throw of 48.22m.

THE Clare Sports Partnership and Clare Athletics Association held its final round of the summer series at Lees Road Sports Complex last Thursday evening. It was another huge success attracting over 200 athletes.

Derg girls take U-15 All-Ireland title in style

Indeed, it was a significant day for the Nash family with Clodagh following in the footsteps of brothers Diarmaid and Barry, who were on previous winning teams. Next stop for the girls will be the Féile na Gael event in Dublin in early July. Tuamgraney will also send a boys’ team and a number of clubs across Clare will be represented. Clarecastle’s Doireann Murphy and Tiernan Agnew from the Kikishen club will compete in the Féile skills competition. Preparations are well under way in Clare for this year’s Munster Adult 60×30 Championships which commence this week. The Banner County will, as always, be well represented across the different grades and hopes for success are high. The provincial championships kicked off over the weekend with the Munster Open singles event, while fixtures in other grades will start next week. Clarecastle man Declan Frawley made his debut in the 60×30 senior open singles when he took on Limerick’s Paul Hedderman in Ballina …
