Moloney achieves A grade at end-of-season gala


THE Ennis Swimming and Lifesaving Club’s Grade B swimmers recently travelled to Tipperary town for their last gala of the season. The lone swimmer achieving her Grade A times was Daire Moloney. Overall, the club took home 40 medals in individual events (13 gold, 14 silver, 13 bronze) and seven medals in the relay events (three gold, two silver and two bronze).

In the girls’ 8-11 age group, Aisling McGrath had some excellent swims and won a gold medal in the 50m butterfly, silver medals in the 200m freestyle and the 100m individual medley and a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle. Amy Lenihan won bronze in the 100m backstroke. Briana Fennell won a silver medal in the 100m freestyle, while Laura McDonnell took gold in the 100m breaststroke in 1:46.49 and bronze in the 100m individual medley. 
In the girls’ 12-13 age group, Fiona Neylon won a bronze medal in the 100m backstroke. Rachel Amy McMahon won a bronze medal in the 50m butterfly and Aoife Floyd won bronze in the 100m individual medley. 
In the girls’ 16 and over age group, Daire Moloney and Darrelle Colleran each won four medals. Daire picked up three gold medals in her 200m freestyle, the 100m individual medley and the 100m breaststroke, while settling for a silver medal in the 100m freestyle. Darrelle earned silver medals in the 200m freestyle and the 100m breaststroke and bronze medals in the 100m individual medley and the 100m freestyle. 
In the boys’ 8-11 age group, Noel Shannon put together some good swims while winning a gold medal in the 100m freestyle in 1:37.20, a silver medal in the 100m individual medley and two bronze medals in the 50m butterfly and the 200m freestyle. 
In the boys’ 12-13 age group, Marley Haugh came first in his 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:41.78 and second in the 200m freestyle. Nathan Coote captured second place in the 100m breaststroke. 
In the boys’ 14-15 age group, David Sheehy earned a gold medal in the 100m freestyle finishing with a time of 1:16.40. David also won silver medals in the 200m freestyle and the 100m backstroke and a bronze medal in the 100m individual medley.  Stephen Mullins put in a good effort in securing a gold medal in the 100m backstroke in a time of 1:29.14. Jack Shannon won a silver medal in the 50m butterfly. Cian Murphy won a silver medal in the 100m individual medley and a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle, while teammate David McDonnell won a silver medal in the 100m freestyle and a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke. 
In the boys’ 16 and over, Darragh Broderick came home with four gold medals in the 200m freestyle, the 100m individual medley, the 100m breaststroke and the 100m freestyle.
Those swimmers who attained personal best times at the gala were Sarah McMahon, Ailish Gowran, Sinéad Rooney, Eimear Wolf, Aisling Mahony Caireen Kennedy, Hannah Bredin, Orla Bredin, Jack McGuinness, Ruairi Power, Conor Sheehy and Robert Casey.
