Nineteen teams will compete for the Division 1 and 2 Clare U-14 Football Championships in 2013 if, as expected, the proposed gradings for the year are ratified by the February meeting of Bord na nÓg. That meeting was due to take place on Tuesday but was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

Shannon dominate chess finals
The Clare Community games handwriting competition took place on Saturday in Tulla, while the chess competitions were staged on Sunday in St Flannan’s College, Ennis. Only three teams took part in the U-16 chess competition on Sunday where the co-ordinator was John Cassidy. Shannon recorded a 3-2 win over Ennis St John’s and they will represent Clare in the Munster finals in Tralee on March 30. There were 11 teams in the U-12 competition which was also played in a round robin format. After a total of 25 team matches both Ennis St John’s teams, together with Shannon and Quin-Clooney, contested the semi-finals. Shannon and Quin-Clooney progressed to the final with Shannon winning on a score of 3-2. The two Ennis teams played for the bronze medals with Ennis B coming out on top. RESULTSU-12: 1.
