Underage football gradings

Nineteen teams will compete for the Division 1 and 2 Clare U-14 Football Championships in 2013 if, as expected, the proposed gradings for the year are ratified by the February meeting of Bord na nÓg. That meeting was due to take place on Tuesday but was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

The proposed gradings were sent out to clubs two weeks ago. A number of clubs lodged appeals which were dealt with by Bord na nÓg officers before they decided on the final groupings.

The recommendation is that the U-14s will be divided into two groups, one  of 10 (Division 1A) and another of nine (Division 1B).

The first two teams in each group will contest the semi-finals of the A competition, with the third and fourth-placed teams in each contesting the B semi-finals.

The fifth and sixth-placed teams in Division 1A and 1B will contest the Division 1 Shield semi-finals with the seventh and eight places teams going through to the Division 2 semi-finals.

The proposed starting date for the U-14 championships is June 3 and 5.

Nine teams will compete for the Clare Féile title this year, with the winner going on to represent Clare at the national festival. The nine are Cratloe, Ennistymon, Éire Óg, Cooraclare, Doora-Barefield, Miltown, Kilmurry-Ibrickane, Wolfe Tones and Clondegad.
