Wolfe Tones get back on track

St Breckan’s 1-6

Following a couple of defeats to Lissycasey and Kilrush, Wolfe Tones crept further up the Garry Cup table following a three-point win over St Breckan’s in Lisdoonvarna last weekend.
The sides were level, St Breckan’s 1-6, Wolfe Tones 0-6, at halftime but the North Clare men played the entire second half with just 14 men after Noel McDonagh was sent off before halftime.
Seán Cormican had scored the Lisdoonvarna men’s first-half goal.
Gary Leahy, Kevin Cahill and Stephen Monaghan did most of the scoring for the Shannon men, while Patsy Keyes, Darren Ryan and Brendan Hughes chipped in with a point each.
St Breckan’s are already relegated to Division 3 next year, as they stand on three points from six games, with three teams to be relegated.

St Joseph’s kept up their impressive league form with a deserved win over table-toppers Kilrush last Saturday in Gurteen. John Halpin’s team now sit joint top of the table along with Aidan Daly’s team.
This was Kilrush’s first league defeat.
A Cathal O’Sullivan goal, just before halftime, was the game’s crucial score. The winners led 1-5 to 0-4 at the interval. They sustained their four-point lead throughout the second period, with Colm Mullen and Cathal O’Sullivan doing most of their scoring. Alan Daly scored five points for Kilrush.

Kilmihil 1-7

Although Cratloe picked up their first win of the Garry Cup campaign, it wasn’t enough to help them retain their status. Along with St Breckan’s, the South-East Clare club will play division 3 league football next season.
The winners led 0-5 to 0-3 at halftime, while Pádraig Chaplin and Conor McGrath netted their second-half goals. Corner-forward Shane Egan found the net for the 2009 Clare Senior B Champions.

Lissycasey  1-10
Ennistymon 1-6

Lissycasey continued their recent good form with this merited victory over Ennistymon at Lissycasey on Saturday evening.
The sides will meet again next week in the first round of the championship when, going on last week’s clash, there will be another tight contest.
The foundations for last week’s win were laid in the opening half when Lissycasey dominated and built up a six-point lead, 0-8 to 0-2.
Alan Nagle put the winners in front and further points followed from Colin Lynch, Nagle, Enda Finnucane and Francis Hayes, while Brian Conway and Joe Dowling were on target for the visitors.
Ennistymon had the first two points of the second half but Lissycasey responded with like scores to maintain their six-point advantage.
The North Clare men then hit their best spell and a goal from the penalty spot from David Davenport cut the deficit to the minimum with just over five minutes remaining.
Lissycasey hit back immediately and after a wonderful passing movement Ger Murphy struck for their goal to seal a merited win.
