It looks like Windfarm Eiscir will be the one to beat in the all-age dog stake (16) at the Tradree coursing meeting at Leamaneigh Beg, Newmarket-on-Fergus, over the weekend.
Trainer Pat Curtin had him back to his best at the recent Regional Coursing, where he was a very impressive winner of the James Curran Memorial Cup (16). In doing so he had a semi-final win over Kyle Basil, who beat him in the first round of the Champion Stakes in Clonmel last season.
Windfarm Eiscir also had an outing at the East Donegal meeting last weekend but was unlucky when beaten just up in the third round of the East Donegal Cup (16) by Derby hero Central City, the eventual winner.
Bookmaker Denny Goold will have Windfarm Eiscir on the board as even-money favourite. The main dangers could come from Venture Out 3-1; Kyle Tanyard and Aristo Prince, 4-1 and Cillowen Bandit, 5-1.
Among the low odds for the all-age bitch stake (16) are Cillowen Bandit 2-1,Oilean Lilo 5-2 Adios Venetia (beaten in the semi-final at Crohane and Killenaula), Cooga Aoife, Windfarm Swift and Lowland Deuce, all at 3-1 and Oilean Mystic and Woodpark Blaze at 4-1.
Due to the circumstances in which they find themselves in, the club had to reduce both trial stakes to 16 runners.
Nonetheless, the card is an attractive one for the club’s second outing at the Leamaneigh Beg venue placed at the disposal of the club by Paddy Quinn. It will be remembered that when the club held its inaugural meeting at this venue it was faced with atrocious weather conditions. The fact that the meeting was held and provided good coursing over the two days was a great tribute to the club. Since last year, improvements have been carried out to the field and the club can boast of a very fine venue for one of the most popular meetings on the Clare coursing calendar.
Clare coursing enthusiasts will also be out in force in Loughrea this Thursday and Friday for the Galway and Oranmore fixture.
There is a change of date for the Ballyduff meeting. It was supposed to have been held on Saturday and Sunday, November 19 and 20 but because of Ballyduff’s involvement in the Munster Intermediate Club Championship final on the Sunday, the coursing has been brought forward to Friday and Saturday.
The draw for the Tradaree meeting was made in Sixmilebridge on Monday night.
