Three in-a-row for Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare


KILMURRY Ibrickane/North Clare won the Patrick O’Dea Cup for the best overall club for the third year in-a-row at the Patrick O’Dea open cross country and 5km road races, hosted by Fergus Athletic Club, on the lands of JJ Sheehan in Lissycasey on Sunday. Ennis Track came second, ahead of St Cronan’s and St Mary’s. In beautiful sunshine the juvenile events attracted big fields and this was also the case for the adult races.

In the ladies’ 5,000m road race, Cushla Bríd Hehir, Ennis Track, recorded a big win in 19.09 from Becky Coughlan, Ennis Track, and Laura Egan, Kilmihil, with Ennis Track taking the team title on 10 points from St Mary’s on 12 and the host club Fergus on 40.
The senior men’s race was well contested and for the second Sunday in-a-row, Michael Shannon, Kilnaboy and Kenneth Rodgers, St John’s, fought out a mighty contest. Victory this time went to Rodgers in a time of 15.13, just two seconds ahead of Shannon, with Jake O’Regan (St John’s) third in 15.52.
St John’s retained the team title and the Bernie Meaney Shield ahead of Ennis Track and Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare.
The novice race resulted in a great win for Willie Devitt, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare, in 16.58 from Ian Slobody, Kilmihil (17.07) and Declan Keniry, St John’s (17.14). The team title was won by Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare on 100 points, ahead of the host club on 116 points, with third place going to the hosts’ B team on 182 points.
The masters’ O-35 title went to James McIntyre, Olympic Harriers, ahead of Liam McGuane, Ennis Track, and Sean Cahallane, Gneeveguilla, with the masters’ O-40 going to Trevor White, St Cronan’s, after a great battle with Pat Healy, Marian, and John O’Malley, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare.
The O-45 race resulted in a great victory for Gerard Daly, Whitegate, who had a full two minutes over Pat Morrissey, Ennis Track and Victor Moloney.
The masters’ O-50 was dominated by Eugene Moynihan, Marian, with Michael Harvey, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare, second, followed by Michael Quinlivan, Tulla. The O-55 was dominated by three Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare athletes, Tom Mackey, James Sexton and Brendan Cusack, with the O-60 going to Willie Keane, St John’s.
The masters ladies’ O-30 title was won by Deirdre Troy, Ennis Track from Clare Hester and Christina Hill, both Fergus and the O-35 title went to Marian Burke, St Mary’s from Loretto Duggan, St Mary’s and Claire O’Dea, Fergus. The O-40 went to Deirdre Daly, Ennis Track, who won from Niamh Ní Mhuiri, Ennis Track and Catherine Carmody. Sue Garrahy, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare won the O-45 ahead of Susan Taylor, St Cronan’s and Linda Daly with Rita Kierce, St Mary’s winning the O-50 title ahead of Cushla Murphy Hehir, Marian.
