Willsgrove wins Green Area award

The awards were presented by the Ennis Tidy Towns Committee at a prize-giving ceremony during the week.
Siobhán King of the Willsgrove Residents Association said that they are all very proud of their estate. “Our residents’ association has been in existence for the past 11 years. A large number of residents in the estate contribute an annual fee for the upkeep and maintenance of the estate.  An annual clean-up day is growing in popularity year on year with children’s involvement,” she commented.
She said that recognition must also be given to their maintenance contractors, “who do an exceptional job in grass cutting, shrub maintenance and general upkeep of the estate on behalf of the residents’ association”.
“We have managed to create a good, close community spirit in the estate over the years, which I feel has given everyone a sense of ownership,” she added.
A string of awards were presented by Donal Griffin of the Ennis Tidy Towns Committee, recognising the work of individuals, communities and school children in promoting Ennis as a tidy town.
For the Ennis Tidy Towns Primary School art competition, children were presented with the theme Biodiversity on the River Fergus. A spokeswoman for Ennis Tidy Towns said this year they received a record number of entries and because it was so difficult to choose the best, awards were presented to 52 pupils.
With the theme biodiversity on the River Fergus, a record number of entries were received.  It was difficult to choose the best so 52 students from six schools received awards.
From Ennis National School, Kate Neylon, Chantelle Olaitan, Conor Grogan, Eoin McMahon, Liam Stackpoole, Karen McNamara, Ashling Moroney, Marese Hayes and Fiona Neylon received awards.
Micheál Ó Aonagáin, Aoibheann Ní hAitheasa, Breandán Ó Conchubhair, Kate Ní hArtaigh, Tereas Ní Riain, Seoda Ní Chaoimh, from Gaelscoil Mhíchíl Chiosóg, all received prizes.
Ten children from Holy Family Senior School were presented with prizes – Jack Kenneally, Derrinn Finerty, Gemma Bugler, Abida Rahman, Niamh Loftus, Anna O’Doherty, Alma Conway, Andrea Cowen, Shauna Dowling, Liam Murray, Deborah Adesiyan, Ania Magier, Dyeneffer Dias.
Dylan Murphy, Cillian Fox, Róisín Collins, Shonagh Collins, Ava Lenihan, Emelia Janik, Niamh Scanlan, Jack Cashell, Emily Fanning, Seán Keane, Róisín Martin, Niamh Quinlan, Gavin Carr, Luke Hillery, Róisín Cahill, Molly McFadden, Agita Stamirowska, Lauren Cashell, Conor Tuohy, Norah Casey from Ennis CBS also received awards.
From Educate Together, Aaron Aston and Klaudia Kalejova won prizes, while Dominika Gasparova, Fridaous Karima from Scoil Chriost Rí, were presented with awards.
Nine people were also recognised in the best kept gardens category of the competition. In the small garden section, Mary K Kearney of St Clare’s, 38 Kincora Park, Ennis was awarded first prize, while Stephen Malone of 6 Dalcassian Drive, Turnpike Road, Ennis came second and Alice Flaherty of 23 McNamara Park, Turnpike Road, Ennis came third. In the medium garden category, Mary Callinan Vaughan, of 1 Childers Road, Ennis came first, with Robert J Moorhead of Meadow Rivers, 1 Ashfield Park, Gort Road, Ennis was second, Josephine Lavin of 36 The Crescent, Ennis was third and Vincent McDermott of 148 Hermitage, Golf Links Road, Ennis came fourth.
In the large garden category, Anne McCullagh of 7 Tulla Road, Lifford, Ennis was awarded first prize and Eileen Corry of Hazelgrove, Roslevan came second.
Another award category in the competition was the Green Area, which was won overall by Willsgrove, Cahercalla Ennis. Under the same category, Marie Brigdale of Drumbiggle Road, was awarded first prize for the best green areas in the inner roads of Ennis section, while Meadow Court, Clonroad, Ennis came first in the private estate section of up to 40 houses, John Paul Avenue, Childers Road, Quin were first in the local authority estate up to 40 houses section. Turnpike and Dalcassian avenue won first prize in the local authority estate with more than 41 houses.
