NOT for the first time, the Tradaree Coursing Club will have new surroundings when it holds its annual meeting on Saturday and Sunday. The new venue is at Leamaneigh Beg, Newmarket-on-Fergus on lands placed at the club’s disposal by Patrick Quinn.

By all accounts, it is an ideal location and access can be gained by taking exit no.9 from the Ennis-Limerick N18.
Off the radar last year, the club has encountered no difficulties on this occasion and with the organising committee working hard behind the scenes for the past few months, Tradaree is up and running and determined to maintain the high standards associated with this popular meeting.
The weekend card includes all-age dog and all-age bitches stakes, Derby (32), reserve Oaks (16) and Harecatchers’ and Working Members’ stakes.
With wins already to his credit from Limerick City and Ratcormac, the Jerry Griffin-trained Soundmanpaddy comes to Tradaree with a big reputation. He will be the 2/1 favourite to keep Jerry Griffin in the news after securing a good double at Ennis-Clarecastle last weekend. Other short prices will be Ronan’s Man and Colossal Storm, both at 4/1.
Prolific Artist, who reached the semi-final in Cashel, will be the one to watch in the all-age bitch stake. Bookmaker Dinny Gold has her installed as the 6/4 favourite. The main dangers will be By Mistake (3/1) and Beckrow Hyland (5/1) while the Clohessy family from Killimer could have a say with their Johnstown and Urlingford cup winner, Scattery Express.
With time running out for Clonmel qualification, the Derby trial stake (32) will assume greater importance and some well-known names will be anxious to get their hands on the ticket.
Competition for the reserve Oaks Trial Stake will also be keen.
Tradaree club secretary, Leo McNulty had a win at the Glanworth meeting last weekend with his Mayor Impact (Eoin Rua-Quarrymount Erin) who won the final of the Glanworth Stakes (32 to course duffers) by five lengths from the Scartaglen-owned Scartview Laura (Bar Time-Ballegan Laura).
Tradaree and the other meetings listed will be hoping the bad weather forecast for the weekend will not interfere with their plans.
The draw, made in the Bellsfort Inn, Stonehall, last Sunday night, is as follows: Judge Tony Reddan: Slipper Richie Quinn, Jnr.
