Weekend of music and maritime fare in Kilkee


THIS weekend’s Kilkee Maritime Festival will start on Friday night when the Irish Chamber Orchestra, in association with Kilkee Civic Trust, perform in St Senan’s Church at 8pm.
Gifted violinist Bradley Creswick will direct the orchestra in a stunning programme that features a host of orchestral classics, a world premiere alongside a dazzling range of gypsy melodies. Summer Serenade features Barber’s Adagio for Strings, Mozart’s prodigious and popular Divertimento in D, K136 and plenty more.
The Irish Chamber Orchestra will also feature in an afternoon prom concert at Limerick’s Milk Market this Sunday at 3pm.
On Saturday, several events will be held on the maritime side including kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing and stand-up paddle boarding. Sailing trips around George’s Head will also feature from 1 to 5pm.
Also on Saturday from 5pm at the slipway the annual 400m raft race will be held. Part of the challenge for competitors will be to build the raft.
There will be five category prizes on offer including junior and senior categories and a fancy-dress theme.
There must be a minimum of two people and a maximum of six in the raft. 
Prizes will also be given for best the dressed crew and most original design
Furthermore, all competitors are requested to enter their raft into the Maritime Festival Parade which takes place at 12 noon on Sunday.
