COME Friday, February 25, people may have had enough of the 2011 General Election. Anyone who lives within driving distance of Mullagh hall and who is into farcical comedy, as opposed to farcical politics, will have an option.
Mullagh Entire Drama Group is due to stage A Wake in the West by Michael Joe Ginnelly. The three-act comedy will also take to the boards in Mullagh hall on the following Sunday night, February 27. The play is set during Tom Healy’s wake. He has succeeded in drinking himself to death and confusion arises as to whether he should be cremated and buried at sea or not.
“There’s confusion as regards the will. They thought he was to be cremated and buried at sea. But the doctor was a bit doddery and he read the will wrongly. It was someone else’s will he had read,” Gregory Rynne, who plays Barney, a friend of the late Tom, explained.
The play is directed by Billy Merriman and has a total cast of nine.
The late Tom Healy is played by Tadhg Barrett, while Tim Donnellan plays the not quite-with-it doctor.
James Egan depicts the role of the priest, while Diane Rynne, Breda Sexton and Patricia Rynne play neighbours. Cathy Sexton plays Mary, Tom’s daughter, while Martin is played by Anthony Morrissey.
The doors will open in Mullagh hall at 7.30pm on both nights, while the curtain will go up at 8.30pm.
