Travel-inspired Kinvara-based artist

GERMAN-born Kinvara based artist Anne Korff was inspired to such an extent from her travels in Morocco, Tunisia, Andalusia and remote parts of south-east Turkey that she has depicted her visits in paint.

Anne, up to now, has specialised in paintings of the Irish landscape but her travels inspired a completely new direction in her work and the result will be on show in West Meets East at the Mountscribe Gallery, Kinvara from May 1 to 9.
The artist has lived in Ireland since 1977 and moved to Kinvara in 1982. Since then, her paintings, innovative ramblers maps and illustrations have been widely acclaimed. Her interest in Islamic art really began in 2002 when, as a traveller in Morocco, she lived with a Berber family in the Atlas Mountains, visited small oases close to the Sahara and the medieval city of Fez. This encounter with Islamic people, their architecture, art and culture sowed the first seeds for this exhibition.
It will be opened by Rod Stoneman, director of Huston School of Film & Digital Media, NUI Galway, on Friday, April 30 at 7pm and will run until May 9, from 12noon to 6pm at the Mountscribe Gallery.
