Ennis fashion retailers rising to the challenges of Covid-19

THE personalised, customer-focused shopping experience that has become synonymous with the town of Ennis is still continuing despite the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. The pandemic has resulted in retail closures throughout the county, with businesses increasingly focusing their efforts online in a bid to meet these new unprecedented challenges. The last few weeks have highlighted the importance of having an online shopping presence, according to Gwen Culligan of the County Boutique in Ennis. While Patrick Burke’s is set to launch a personal shopping service utilising popular apps so people can purchase while still maintaining social distancing. The County Boutique launched its website last year allowing people to buy the latest looks from the comfort of their own home. Gwen tells us they were “incredibly lucky” to already be online when the Covid-19 restrictions were introduced. “We’re selling every day at the moment. Cultural Clare focus on US website

COUNTY Clare’s artistic and cultural creativity has been highlighted on IrishCentral.com, a US-based website with more than 3.5 million visitors per month and a social media following in excess of 750,000. The website, the leading news source for the Irish diaspora around the world, is partnering with Creative Ireland, the Government’s five-year initiative, to place creativity at the centre of public policy. As part of this programme, IrishCentral featured the 2017 Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. It also looked at Sparks Youth Film Festival, which offers animation and film workshops from October to November to encourage creative expression in young people aged six to 18 years, as well as the Inisowiacy-Polish Folk Dance Group, who will be organising workshops in Ennis in September, showcasing the culture and traditions of folk dancing in Poland. Memory Man chronicles ’95 hurling success in Bridgetown

Jimmy Magee has vivid memories of Clare’s All-Ireland senior hurling success in 1995. The legendary sport and television personality was in ebullient form when he helped to launch a new website for the 25th annual South-East Clare Show in Tony Horan’s Bar, Bridegtown on Thursday night last. The legendary Memory Man can still hold an audience’s attention, judging by the response to his trip down memory lane during the launch. Italia ’90 and Clare’s thrilling All-Ireland victories in 1995 and ’97 were some of the key sporting moments he recalled on the night, to the delight of the large attendance. Speaking to The Clare Champion, Magee noted Clare enjoyed tremendous support from all parts of the country in the run up to the 1995 All-Ireland decider as, “what is seldom is wonderful”. Clare Champion tops the poll for election coverage

The Clare Champion broke new ground with our 2014 Local and European elections coverage. With regular updates on our websites  from our team of reporters, Nicola Corless, Carol Byrne, Dan Danaher, Peter O’Connell and Owen Ryan, and photographer, John Kelly, there was a huge following over the two-day count at Treacys’ West County Hotel in Ennis. There was also big engagement via Facebook and twitter. Up to Wednesday evening, our website election coverage had more than 48,000 hits. Of course, this week’s Clare Champion has  comprehensive election coverage, in particular a debate with former TDs Tony Killeen, Donal Carey and Moosajee Bhamjee, as well as analysts, Mike Torpey and Kevin Halpin.

Clare features on new cycle app

CYCLE Ireland, the website that provides online route guides for cyclists, has launched its new smart phone App that makes exploring Ireland quicker and easier. This could bring additional revenue to Clare, which already is a very popular destination for cycle  tourists. The Cycle Ireland App features 100 of the most scenic routes in Ireland, taking in top attractions and covering 6,800 kilometres. Photos, videos and route descriptions can be viewed on the Cycleireland.ie website and on the App. The App provides an opportunity to exploit Ireland’s massive untapped potential as a cycling destination. Bord Fáilte is actively targeting a potential market of 20 million cycle tourists and it is estimated that approximately 170,000 cycling enthusiasts and tourists will visit Ireland’s countryside this year. The Cycle Ireland App will help these cycle tourists to explore Ireland’s countryside.
