Anne’s crew remember her to Rapunzel

STAFF members in St Joseph’s Hospital are planning a ‘crew cut’ for a fundraising event in memory of their former colleague, Anne Fox, who lost her battle with cancer in September 2013. Three of Anne’s former colleagues are stepping forward for the short back and sides by hairdressers from K&G Hair Salon on Parnell Street, at the function in O’Keeffe’s Bar, Lifford, on February 27. But that’s not all. The group, and the 10-year-old niece of one of the volunteers and the daughter of another, will then hand over their tresses to the Rapunzel Foundation to make into wigs for children and adults who suffer from alopecia. Tommy Guilfoyle, Deirdre Allan and her daughter, Mary, who works in Ryan’s Centra, and St Joseph’s colleague, Nuala Casey haven’t had a haircut since last April or May. Tommy’s niece, Ava Burke, aged 10, a pupil in Gaelscoil Micheál Chiosóg, has never had more than a trim. Now she’s prepared to have 14 …

Tulla Goes Classic With Vintage Show

TULLA Vintage Organisation (T.V.O.) will hold the second Pat O’Halloran Memorial this Sunday September 7 giving the East Clare community an opportunity to check out the best vintage models around. The event is once again being staged in O’Halloran’s Field, Church Road, Tulla, from 12 noon and this year’s main beneficiary is Sláinte an Chláir, which will see funds donated staying in the East Clare area. A display of vintage tractors, classic cars, motorbikes will parade through the town led by the Tulla Pipe Band from 1pm, while a host of stationary engines will be on display throughout the day at O’Halloran’s field. Due to the success of the Vintage Day last year and to the generous support of you the people; Tulla Vintage Organisation was in a position to donate €4,290 to the Jack and Jill Foundation and €4,290 to the Tulla Tidy Towns Committee. New cancer information booklet

EIGHT out of 10 cancer sufferers had to give up employment or change their work hours due to fatigue, a study undertaken by Sláinte an Chláir has shown. Details of the study are contained in a new information booklet, developed by members and friends of Sláinte an Chláir, which will be officially launched at Waterpark House, Ennis next Thursday at 2pm. Anyone affected by cancer on an individual basis or those who have family members affected by the condition are welcome to attend the launch. The Kilnamona centre helps people to access information on all aspects of cancer, including diagnosis, treatment and after care, as well as providing practical support for people and their families. “Meeting people who have been through a similar experience can definitely help to make the journey with cancer a little easier. Our members and friends are very happy to share their experiences and to support people affected by cancer,” said a spokesperson. The booklet provides …
